That's a bit more important than some trailer-dweller, and every prominent Republican has disavowed the racists. Never until Trump was elected has any party just ignored the qualifications of a nominee and voted to support character assassination. The logical explanation for voting "no" on a candidate as highly qualified as Kavanaugh is hatred of Trump, a hatred which was put above country. And if you want to claim that it was a vote about his actions 30 years ago, where there was zero-point-zero supporting evidence, then the willingness of the Dems to cast aside presumption of innocence in order to justify their votes makes an even stronger case. Note also that Gorsuch got only three Dem votes from senators in highly Republican states. "Why should I give information to you when all you want to do is find something wrong with it?" I call it politics. it was less than 30 years ago that Kavanaugh behaved as a naked partisan, first in service of Ken Starr and then and service of George W Bush. so there were plenty of reasons to oppose his nomination that had nothing to do with Donald Trump and nothing to do with allegations of sexual harassment. If you are somebody was hoping for less partisanship, Kavanaugh's record of employment is highly concerning. Of course he confirmed all of those concerns in his final testimony to the Senate, making it much more hostile and partisan than it was already.

But it also makes Republicans and their voters look bad. You have to remember that the Kavanaugh hearings took place over a course of months, and the sexual stuff did not become public until the very last month. The Democrats in the Senate did indeed put forward the same arguments about him being too partisan that I just put forward. But nobody cared. The Republicans in the Senate were not moved by arguments for fair play. The media did not make a big deal about it. The Democratic party voters were not highly engaged. Shame on all of us.

The lunacy of some in this thread... Kavanaugh was the most qualified and as or more honorable of character than any justice since Scalia or Kennedy.
His character assassination was pure fabrication. A sick, inexcusable partisan attack. More than that, it sets the tone for every single nomination moving forward. It's the blueprint for baseless opposition attacks. That is what the divisive, destructive radical left has contributed to changing politics forever. If you were fine with that circus, then congratulations. You are just as responsible for it.
