Gene Smiths team wasn't devoid of any talent either, they had starting caliper role players no real superstars it was Caldwell's arrogance to gut the entire roster and tell us he could rebuild this house in 3 years. He cut Monroe and has YET to find a replacement for LT 5 years later. He gutted the secondary and while it seemed we had FINALLY 4 years latter fielded a true secondary it looks more and more like that's not even fixed 5 years latter. He's now two coaches in and the performance is only getting worse, the coaching is only getting worse, the play calling getting worse. His QB is no better than Gabbert, hell Gabbert beat us last year. He sent Knighton walking and hasn't drafted anyone suitable at DT we had to go spend big money in the FA to find replacements for the DT he let walk. Finally the WR he did find we decided not to keep any of them! Think about that we extended Bortles and let Hurns and Robinson walk, talk about mismanagement of the roster. Caldwell will lead us to stockpiling 8-8 talent. We are all set for average. I will be shocked if we see much in the way of change.

Monroe finished out 2013 healthy for the Ravens, but 2014 and 2015 were injury riddled seasons for him and then he retired. It looks like we got off a sinking ship in the nick of time to me. You guys have fuzzy memories. You might want to see a doctor if you really believe all that was typed there. As a not inconsequential aside, how many playoff appearances did Smith's teams have? Oh, that's right... “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato
The fact that we’re even asking whose “regime” was better, Gene Smith vs David Caldwell, is quite sad.
No Discipline= Bad Coaching

Hey ...Raven, look at the number listed under your “reputation” on the stats under your name and avatar. Your score is -7. That isn’t good.
Marrone is a Coughlin kind of guy. He was dealt a bad hand this year. It all started with the Marqise Lee injury against the Falcons at the end of Preseason and we were okay to start the year but then the injuries snowballed out of control. It's hard to maintain any continuity and trust in the guys around you when we're starting new players every week. The leadership only goes so far. This just really wasn't our year but we can save face by seeing how bad the supposed leaders on this team perform and just move on from them. Unfortunately we're stuck with Bortles and probably won't find a suitable trade partner willing to pick up his contract. We could only be so lucky as with the Osweiler deal the Texans put up but then were able to dump him off to Cleveland. The Patriots liked him coming into the league maybe they'd see him as a quality back-up and could possibly play after Brady retires.
No pain, no gain.

One of the main issues in the first place was having Marquise Lee as your #1 receiver. He is not a #1 receiver on any other team in the NFL. If they truly insist on keeping Bortles around, they need to surround him with guys like Allen Robinson who have a large catch radius and can get 50/50 balls. I remember it being a "he was going to leave anyway" situation. Monroe wasn't an elite LT by any means, but he is better than anything we have had since. People using him getting hurt as a Raven is not really a solid defense of letting him walk in the first place. The fact that we replaced him with one of the most epic busts at LT in NFL history is what really hurts.
Coughlin was fired up this morning. He’s going to make some major changes in the off season.
