When they were at their height. Man, that must have been a hell of a concert.

Living Colour opened with a decent set.

The Stones were so tight, I remember reviews saying it was one of their best shows on that tour. The sound system was remarkable, especially considering the venue and era. My favorite moment was when the four giant Macy's Parade sized bar girl balloons inflated on each side of the stage when the Stones played Honky Tonk Woman.

Living Colour opened for them in 91 on Steel Wheels

Yeah you're right I totally blew it on the year, I don't know why I was so off. I thought it was later than 75 when I saw them but couldn't find any info on the 91 concert. Hell, it was in November, too, I was confusing the heat at an Eagles concert at Florida Field. I knew the timeline didn't feel right, but 16 years off can only be blamed on copious amount of weed smoked during those years.

All I know is I saw the Rolling Stones in some version of the Gator Bowl, some time in the previous century. And they were good.

They came to the Gator Bowl in 1975.   I was there, too.   I was way back in the South end zone.   Sat through hours and hours of opening acts.   I think one was J Geils Band, another was Shaka Khan.   Got wasted on various substances, got rained on, it was a long day, but they finally came on, so I can say I saw the Rolling Stones once in my life.  I was a huge fan of theirs back then.  I saw Gimme Shelter in the San Marco Theater when it came out.   Great movie.   Hiring the Hell's Angels to do security.  Who had that brilliant idea?

Yeah, but as NYC pointed out, I mis-remembered my Rolling Stones experience. I saw them in 1991 in the renovated (pre-Jaguars version) Gator Bowl, Living Colour was the opening act. The Stones were very good, but...I guess polished is the best way to describe them. Not a bad thing, but I envy your experience, that was the Stones' heydey.

Knowing my love of a wide variety of intoxicants in those days, I doubt I would remember much, had I been  there. I apparently have a hard enough time remembering the concert I DID attend.

I believe it was the 1981 tour I saw. They were already over the hill and a parody of themselves. They peaked in 1969, IMO.

Yes I go see all the bands I hate. I just like having a lousy time.

I actually had a better time at the 1977 Tampa Led Zeppelin show that ended after 2 songs, a massive thunderstorm and major riot.

By your own words you thought they were a parody, so not sure why you went to see them. Hey, there's no accounting for taste. I've never seen the Stones live but they still put on a very good show by all accounts. The best show I've ever seen was Robert Plant in the 90s and people said he was over the hill after leaving Zep, so go figure. And Paul McCartney killed it when he played here a couple years ago and he's in his 70s too.

My impressions came AFTER seeing the show, obviously. I went to see them because they were one of my favorite bands in the 60s and early 70s. But the show paled in comparison to the records. The sound was lousy and Jagger just flapped around like a lunatic and omitted half the lyrics.

I did see McCartney at the Citrus Bowl in 1993 and in Jax in 2014. Both great shows.

I think the best arena shows I've seen are The Who 1976 Gator Bowl, Jethro Tull, 1976 Tampa and surprisingly, The Jacksons, 1984, Gator Bowl.

I've always thought the Stones sounded terrible live. That was great in the days when everyone in the audience was as wasted as them. I remember their Superbowl performance some time ago. They sounded terrible. All of that said, I don't think their aim is to sound like the records. I get the feeling they approach songs differently all of the time to keep things fresh. I've heard multiple live versions of "Sympathy" and almost all them are in a different key. And I get tuning down as your singer gets older, but they were doing this back in the day.
