Quote:I use the apple TV. Haven't paid a cable or satellite bill in 4 years. Love it. My mom has an apple TV. I like that little thing too, but that remote is so darn tiny, it gets lost every two seconds. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Yeah, I've misplaced it a few times. I feel like I could snap that thing at any second.
I have had a Roku for a while now. I love it. I dropped cable a while ago and haven't looked back. The only thing you might miss is football but you can go out to watch games.

Quote:I don't follow, Roku is Iranian? I'm pretty sure that is an Iranian village name.
Quote:I'm pretty sure that is an Iranian village name.According to Google: Roku is six in Japanese. Roku is the founder's sixth company.

I've never heard of this. It's interesting after looking it up but I have a few questions.
Currently I have cable, phone, and internet service from Comcast. If I were to get Roku would I drop just the cable TV from Comcast and keep the phone and internet service? Would I need to get a Roku box for every TV in the house? I have a designated cable line for my HD projector in my theatre room and then the other TV's are split off of the other line. Would that be the same setup? Not all of my TV's are HD does this matter? Their website says they don't charge a monthly fee but some of their partners do; so who do you write the check to for the subscription channels? Does it keep bottle beer cold? Thanks in advance..................the Chiefjag

That's something you would need to answer, some people can get by without cable tv services and only live with netflix/hulu/amazon/redbox/ota tv while others can't. I personally had no problem dropping it as I didn't watch it much at all, and netflix had enough of the shows I did watch in it's streaming options. If you can live without it than sure you can cancel the tv. The voip phone service isn't necessary in the functionality of the device, so if you feel you don't need it than you can drop it too. The internet is a necessity for this though. Quote:<div></div> Those that you would want to access the streaming options yes. If you have a smart tv, you more than likely could do without the roku anyways. Quote:<div></div> The lines don't necessarily matter as you will be receiving the wireless signal through your router. The box doesn't have any sort of coaxial input at all, it's purely an internet device. I don't have a projector so I'm not sure how that works, I would assume if it has a way to receive a composite and or hdmi input the roku box should just hook up to it, also if it has a dvi or vga input there are converters for hdmi to either of those. Quote:<div></div> I believe the majority of their boxes have a composite (red white yellow) and hdmi outputs, so no it doesn't matter unless you buy an hd only box. Quote:<div></div> While they themselves don't charge for services (you buy just the box) the various "channels" you will have to pay for. So you would possibly need a hulu plus subscription, an amazon prime subscription, a netflix subscription, an hbo go subscription, so on and so fourth. |
