Do any of you guys have one of these things?  I swear this little gizmo is going to take over the world.  People aren't going to leave the house. 

 

If you don't have one, I suggest you google it right now, go to Walmart and buy one. 

 

I got one for Christmas and I swear I don't think I have seen the light of day since.  They are pretty cheap too.  I think the most expensive one is close to $120.  They have them for $70.  AWESOME.

I have an Apple TV and I use it in favor of the Sat box like 99% of the time. Love it.

i picked up a Chromecast. Honestly none of the other devices can hang with it from a value perspective. $35 tons of great functionality is a no brainer to me. Plus no device to look at and you don't have to deal with a separate remote like with some of the other set top internet boxes is nice as well.

What in the Wide Wide World of Sports is agoin' on here???

I have both Roku and chromecast.  Only problem with chromecast is that it doesn't support Amazon.  So I recently got a new Roku, which doesn't support google play, but supports Amazon which is better anyway plus I have Prime.  I actually don't really need the chromecast anymore.   I only use it for playing youtube from my tablet, but apparently I can do the same thing with my Roku.

That's not an issue if your wireless connection is strong, but I have DSL, and it actually becomes an issue if several devices are sharing the wireless connection or, in  my case, the wireless signal must pass through 2 10" thick white oak log walls.

 

With so many smart TVs hitting the market at decent prices, I'll be going that route in the future.

We bought one of these from Amazon for $25 before Christmas, and we've really enjoyed it.  The only gripe I have is there are only a limited number of apps for the Chromecast.  From what I understand, that's a big complaint with most folks, and Google is working on that now.

Yeah for some reason Google has really been dragging their feet releasing the SDK for Chromecast. Some apps have trickled in here and there with support but it should really explode whenever they finally release the SDK.

Wireless, but even still the connection speed isnt the problem (as with buffering and such) the program crashing/freezing/no loading was.  I'm sure there are good ones though, just saying to see if you can test them out.   

 

What are the benefits/ features of the SMART TV's?

 

Smart tvs allow things like netflix, hulu, amazon, facebook, twitter, pandora radio, a web browser if you're lucky, and various different apps from the tv itself and not a separate device.  Most smart tvs and even the "internet connected" tvs will have DNLA support which will allow you to access videos, pictures, music from a NAS device, home server, or just your computer.  Usually they cost a bit more than a "dumb" tv of similar specs but they can serve many peoples needs from a single device and thus a single remote.

I have Smart TVs but I still prefer to use my Apple TV because the ATV has an 8Gb flash memory and it allows you to "load" whatever you're streaming so that if your internet drops out a bit your show is mostly unaffected.

 

Whereas, the TV streams moment to moment - if your Wifi drops for 5 seconds your program stalls/reloads.

Most of this stuff doesn't interest me.  I must be a Luddite.  I'm even looking to buy a turntable in a couple of months.  

 

I do have a Smart TV that I stream music and Netflix into on occasion.  So, there is that.

I use the apple TV.   Haven't paid a cable or satellite bill in 4 years.  Love it. 

 

(and I still use my turntable, home biscuit  :thumbsup: )
