I HATE this option.

Hate? It's really not that bad of an option unless he starts commanding starting money or something crazy like that.

He played quite well in 2017, then seemed to regress until he got hurt this past season.

Wells got hurt so quickly this past season that I don't think he really played long enough to say that he regressed. He was also flip-flopping a bit between right and left tackle. He always seems to struggle more at right tackle, but I've been very pleased with Wells for a while now. He's improved so much over the guy he was a few years ago.

I don't see it.

I know past history shouldn't matter, but this team's track record with 1st round receivers has been terrible (Soward, Williams and Jones) and Metcalf's history of injuries would give me pause. I'd prefer getting the big offensive tackle in the 1st round and then waiting til rounds 2 or 3 for the receiver. Robinson and Lee were very solid 2nd round picks and Westbrook was a 4th round steal (due to character concerns).

The Jaguars failures drafting wr in the first round is the same reason for a lot of their failures, they were "needs" drafting instead of best available player.

You can't make a great player just exist because you think you need someone at that position. The team needs to learn that you take great players every year, even if that means drafting center three years in a row. Stop leaving great players for your opponents while you take the garbage ones.
Yea, I believe the same thing. Coughlin probably still has nightmares about drafting Soward just because of need at that position. The same goes for Reggie Williams and Matt Jones. This year, the Jags have several areas of need so the likelihood of need and value coming together are very good. If the Jaguars remain in the same spot (6th), I don't see a wide receiver, running back or tight end worthy of that pick, except possibly Haskins who will likely be gone. Metcalf's talent is undeniable, but his injury history is too risky for a team that can't afford to miss with their first round pick.

Do you feel the same way about Cam Robinson? Cause many people didn't see much of a drop off after Cam got hurt (until Wells also got hurt), and fwiw PFF had Wells graded slightly higher too.

I do not think Cam Robinson is anything more than what he is. A better LT than what we've had in the past and that's not saying much. I've been a huge advocate of moving him to RT and drafting a true LT. I still believe that is the best way to go. I'm not a fan of Wells and I'm not really a fan of Robinson as a LT. I believe you build a team by starting with the LT position. You need a really good LT to protect a franchise QB. Tony Boselli was the best LT I ever saw in my lifetime and that's not just me being a homer. I live in the Cincinnati area and when I was a kid, I watched Anthony Munoz play every week. IMO, Boselli was better, he just had a shorter career than Munoz. I don't expect us to find another Boselli, because that might never happen. I just want someone who can consistently hold off defenders and open running lanes. Now that Robinson is coming off a serious injury, I'm even more skeptical of his 2019 season. That's why I believe so much in drafting a Swing Tackle that can replace Robinson if he isn't ready by the start of the season or if he regresses, due to the injury.
