I still say if he was picked five spots later and didn't have the 'first round' label tied to him, people would be a lot more lenient with their evaluation.

Yea I agree. Barring a big improvement, he seems like he will have a decent career as a rotational guy. But going in the 1st round carries expectations. Not sure he will fulfill them.

Taven was drafted so high based off athletic ability alone, which let's remember is through the roof high. He has had one good season in his life of football as a senior in high school. Only truly started playing as a junior with Florida. His biggest knock is he has no football instincts. Jags selected him in the first because they believe they can mold him into a football player, but we all should realize this is going to take a lot of time. Taven is the perfect example of a player who would benefit from a developmental league, he really just needs playing time. I don't think we will see the type of player he is going to be until 3-4 years down the road, he is just so raw as a football player.

Not much. He's Rob Meier Lite. Only difference is that we took Rob in RD7 and had the time and patience to develop him.

I dont feel Taven will have this luxury in year two.

Dareus plays 1 tech nose. 
He won't be in any rotation for Taven's 3 tech spot. He'd only play at 3 tech if they are using some rare heavy package with Abry Jones and Marcell Dareus in the middle.

The NFL average for pressures to sacks is about 9-1. If he's really racking up that many pressures hopefully he's getting double the sacks.

I'd bet it's a bit lower overall if you isolate 3 tech players, especially if you remove a couple of really high outlier players with big double digit numbers. (sack/pressure ratio)

I don't have access to those stats. So we don't know. 

I'm still guessing the 3 tech specific sack/pressure ratio numbers are going to be lower than the overall you're sort of quoting. Especially with the outlier removal I mentioned. (Aaron Donald types) 

I think the pressure and sack numbers I laid out would be fine a for a 2nd year player that was touted as incredibly raw.  (7% pressure rate and an 11-1 sack ratio)

I think the team will need to be patient with Taven. Most of the run heavy teams will be early in the schedule. While he did get reps last year, being expected to be the defacto starter can be more pressure.

Middle of season and later in the season will be more balance teams that are trying to not force their franchise QB's to do everything.

Having said that, he should basically be facing the easiest match up on the line every week. I expect him at the end of the year to be pretty much average with respect to league, but with high variance game to game.

I think our run D will be better with him than Jackson.  I think he will surprise some people and be one of the most improved players on the team.

I just didn't see the explosive burst off the ball transition from college to the NFL last season. That was the only element to his game that was above average. He got lost in the crowd and on a few occasions he was in position to make a play he lost sight of the ball/ball carrier. I hope he develops into at least a strong run defender maybe on the inside but I don't see it. But yes time will tell that's the intriguing part.

Go watch the last few games, he flashed a few times the explosive burst at the snap the reason we drafted him.  Made some good run stops with it too

The young man needs a lot a work to become even an average NFL player. That being said, he has the natural ability needed to excel at the position. He needs to get the reps and film study so he can develop into a viable defensive tackle. This is not as far fetched as it may seem as Marcus Stroud was so humiliated by his rookie campaign that he developed a work ethic that he had never needed to have previously and we all know how his career bloomed from that point on. Sometimes these young men just need to watch tape with their position coaches and they can decide if they really want to dedicate themselves to their craft and put the time and effort into becoming a true professional or if they just want to take the money and run.

2.)  It's all about 3rd down.  Win on 3rd down to win the game.

3.) Playmakers make plays.  The only reason that you put your uniform on is to make plays. In order to EARN your paycheck, you must make plays.
