Absolutely pay attention to the dateline.  Venezuela is a very good example of what this country would be like with a socialist in charge.  That country used to be one of the wealthiest until Chavez and his socialist policies came into power.  Look at it now.

Depends what you mean by socialism.
Our social security program has been helping the common American man since the early 1940s.
Scandinavia has had free school lunch and free school breakfast for everyone since the 1880s.
But those are welfare programs.

Socialism specifically means that government takes over the means of production.  That's usually bad.  But if all of your means of production - say, copper mines or oil fields - are owned by foreign corporations that don't employ locals and don't care about the country, well, socialism becomes very tempting, to say the least.

Good luck finding that. The inherent flaw in socialism is that it relies on humans to put the good of society ahead of our natural, built-in, instinctive desire to look out for number one. That's something that goes back to the days when early mammals were being naturally selected by a T-Rex as Darwin Award winners. A form of government founded on the idea that humans will put others ahead of themselves is only going to work until someone in power sees the benefits of their role. Which will happen, you know, the day the government starts.

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if she wins the nomination. Wouldn't be my first choice by any stretch of the imagination, but they could certainly do much worse. At least no one's trying to amend the Constitution to get AOC into the right.

...no one's tried to do that yet, right? I mean, if I were Mitch O'Connell and that amendment came across my desk, I'd be all, "Yes, we as a country must pass this now so AOC can run and set her party back by 40 years to the days of Carter."
