lets compare this year.
|
we all talk a lot about pre-seaeon not meaning anything. sometimes it can be a confiendce boost for a team espaissley if thy won a game or 2. it can also be a discourgement. anyways lets do something this year to see the truth about pre-season. and compare records with thoese teams regluear season.. this is a post just to compare, and see things. not meant to be negtiave, nor psotive. I put work into this so please lets see what happens.
pre-season records W-L Regluar season records W-L-T Bills 4-0 bills 4-1 pats 3-1 pats 5-0 dolphins 3-1 jets 0-4 jets 2-2 dolphins 0-4 central central w-L Ravans 4-0 ravans 3-2 pit 3-1 cin 0-5 clev 3-1 pit 1-4 cin 1-3 clev 2-3 afc south afc south tittians 2-2 colts 3-2 colts 1-3 texans 3-2 texans 1-3 tittians 2-3 jags 0-4 jags 2-3 west west oak 3-1 kC 4-1 den 2-3 LAC 2-3 LAC 1-3 OAK 3-2 KC 1-3 den 1-4 NFC NFC NYG 4-0 dallas 3-2 dallas 2-2 eagles 3-2 Redskins 1-3 redskins 0-4 eagles 1-3 giants 2-3 North North min 3-1 GB 4-1 GB 2-2 chi 3-2 chi 1-3 min 3-1 det 0-4 det 2-1-1 south south TB 3-1 TB 2-3 car 2-2 falcons 1-4 NO 2-2 NO 4-1 Falcons 1-4 car 3-2 west west rams 2-2 rams 3-2 49ers 3-1 seahawks 4-1 seahwks 3-1 49ers 4-0 cards 1-3 cards 1-3-1 if possbille can someone edit this better so we can come back, and make the changes after the first regular season game. 2 of the 3 undeafted teams from pre-season are still undeafted. KC amd lions are the only teams with loseing record in preseason that has a wining record in regluar season. pits, and browns are only 2 teams with winning records that have loseing records now. clevland hasn't played yet. lions who were 0-4 have won a game, and tied so they have a winning record. as of now jags are the only team to not win a game this year. 0-4 in preseason ,and 0-2 in regluar season. With the NFL pre-season evolving into teams keeping out starters and key role players at the very least most of the pre-season, I don't even think that a pre-season 'win' would provide a confidence booster. Pre-season could expose depth at one or more positions. Otherwise, the only thing that really matters from these 'games' in terms of impact in the regular season is the injuries that will carry over into the regular season.
we will see. its one of the reasons i wanted to do this comparesisnion though too. see if the 2 winless teams have any signs of confidence in week 1,and to see if the undeafted teams are over confidient in week 1. anyways tell your lions the jags said thank you for makeing sure jags werent the only winless team in pre-season. no offensse intended.

Regardless what happens in Week # 1 with the Jaguars and Lions, I strongly believe the 0-4 pre-season records will have nothing to do with the outcome of the respective games. In 2008, the Lions went 4-0 in the pre-season. In game # 1 at Atlanta, then rookie QB Matt Ryan and UFA RB Michael Turner led the way in the Falcons building a 21-0 first quarter lead. What happened in those 15 minutes of game action became the indicator of what was ahead for the Lions in the overall regular season. The pre-season was a distant memory in less than 45 minutes in real time.
There is way way way too much history showing preseason means next to nothing to even bother. NFL.com has preseason results from seasons past.
Have at it Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!

Marv Levy coached the Buffalo Bills for twelve (12) seasons. He finished his coaching career in Buffalo with a 112-70 regular season record and four straight Super Bowls between the 1990-1993 seasons. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/c...evyMa0.htm However, the Bills won exactly FOUR (4) preseason games in that four year stretch. Quote:Remember how bad Marv Levy’s Bills were during the preseason? From 1990-1993, the Bills only won four preseason games and were notorious for hating the exhibition season. You know why the Bills hated the preseason? No, it wasn’t because they wanted to conserve their energy for the keger parties on the Fredonia campus. It’s because they didn’t need to take the preseason seriously. You really think Jim Kelly needed to work on his timing routes with Andre Reed? Hell, no. The duo could have ran a 30-yard fly pattern in pitch darkness. When you have that much talent, you don’t really need that much practice. We are talking about practice here, Practice!! (Iverson voice) https://thesportsdaily.com/2010/08/09/sh...preseason/ So which was more indicative of the team's ability, the 1 win per preseason they averaged during those four years, or the four straight Super Bowls? Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!
Quote:we all talk a lot about pre-seaeon not meaning anything. Correct. the rest of your post was unnecessary. Don't try to use the presesason, espeailally this one, where we barely saw the starters or our playbook to predict the season. It's a waste of your time, snowie, you could be playing madden, or enjoying the outdoors.
2017 Cleveland Browns
pre-season 4-0 Regular season 0-16 2008 Detroit Lions pre-season 4-0 Regular season 0-16 Those two records should tell you all you need to know. The pre-season games have no equivalency to regular season games. They are basically showcases for guys who need tape to show what they can do in game situations.

So you are saying we have just as much chance to win the superbowl as the NYG did when they had a losing record in the preseason? I LOVE IT! I was really feeling down about this season with how the preseason has went. Atleast now i can have some hope, espaissley since Wolfie pointed out we have a chance at the Superbowl!

No i am saying its highly unlikey ,but we have as much a chance to win the super bowl as the 1982 redskins did who went 0-4 in preseason. so keep that hope. snowwolf titans owner in madden. note titans owner means im undeafted againest them. You are certainly one of my Favorite Posters! The Bills of the Marv Levy-Jim Kelly-Thurman Thomas era are probably the best illustration of why pre-season W-L records the vast majority of tbe time have very little significance as a predictor of the regular season. One of the few exceptions was the final game of 1999 pre-season between the then St.Louis Rams and the Lions. The pre-season week, Rams QB Trent Green suffered a season ending knee injury. Kurt Warner started the final pre-season game. He lit up the Lions Defense. The Rams looked like the greatest show on turf that evening and it carried over to an eventuall Super Bowl win that season for St. Louis.
Preseason means nothing. Which is why they are talking about getting rid of it.
It means nothing
congrats on your lions win this week D6.

Thanks, snowwolf. It was a hard fought win for the Lions that didn't look like it was coming much of the afternoon. Being able to make the key plays in crunch time on BOTH sides of the ball is something the Lions failed to do too often since after the 2016 playoff season.
Even with the LA Chargers injury situation being substantial, they still have plenty of talent available. WR Keenan Allen is an elite route runner., with impressive ball skills. Philip Rivers is still a high caliber QB. Their edge rushers on Defense, Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram,, are one of the best pairs in the NFL. Getting a win over this Chargers team is definitely a much needed building block for the Lions. That much more with Philadelphia, Kansas City, Green Bay., and Minnesota next on the schedule. |
