Anybody still think Minshew will back up NF7?

Even accepting at face value Minshew gets 25% of snaps, that plus his action in four preseason games isn't enough to be adequately prepared to succeed should he be forced into action in the regular season.  Under ideal circumstances, Minshew would be a third stringer this year.

This isn't to say he could not develop into a viable backup in the future, but it's doubtful he has the experience or physical tools to win us very many games.

Let's reframe something: if you are counting on backups to win games then you either should be starting the backup, or you have a true franchise guy ahead of him.

Backups like Minshew don't win games, the best you can hope for is they do their part to let the team win. The Jaguars already have a QB that won't win games starting, so Minshew not winning games isn't a problem so much as that it looks like he doesn't have the ability to even be a decent game manager. He has the look of a "at least he didn't turn the ball over in his 15-27 for 143 yards performance," guy.

I'm not a huge fan of Jones, but he has experience and a stronger arm than Minshew.

Not bashing Minshew.  I would be a bigger fan of his as a 3rd string guy, or if he had some experience, as a second teamer.

Worst to 1st.  Curse Reversed!

I Concur, especially being in the "Win Now" mode.

The "win now" viewpoing hangs on Foles arm. If he goes down, the team is pretty much toast this year. Minshew wouldn't have been my first choice to back him up, but the team is trying to work its way out of a cap hole caused by extending Bortles. They've got enough dead money on the cap this year that Minshew is really our only affordable option. So, if Foles gets hurt, get used to seeing a lot of Fournette carrying the ball, because they're not going to put much on the backup beyond handoff left, handoff right. Let's just hope we have enough health on the offensive line to keep Foles upright for 16 games.
Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

This MB is so [BLEEP] up that it's the only place in the whole damn NFL that the backup QB isn't the most popular guy in town.

Well, we did have that going on here for most of the past 15 years, so... give it time. I’m sure we’ll have plenty of that stuff again soon enough.

How can you evaluate his game managing skill when the players around him couldn't put together any game for him to manage?

Yup.

The Jags started life as a team whose backup (Brunell) took over for a decent injured starter (Beuerlein).  Then Leftwich over Brunell.  Then Garrard over Lefty, et cetera.

I'm not even counting the brief Johnson over Brunell conversations.

Daniel Jones killed it in preseason. Even Gabbert looked promising in preseason and practice with the Jaguars. Minshew belongs in the AFL.

I really hope we don't have to find out if Minshew is the one or not.

Yeah, someone else already said Foles is the worst QB in the league or some such nonsense. It won't be long.

Well, this is going to get realllllllllll ugly with Minshew starting real fast. Guy can't throw the ball past 15 yards without massive effort.

We down by 20, Chiefs D is just in prevent mode lol. Preseason showed he literally can't throw the ball past 15 yards without it floating up in the air. Teams will start to focus on it. I understand he has energy and all that, but come on...

Minshew did about what I expected. He protected the ball and only got a TD in garbage time.

Hell do nicely as a backup to Kaepernick while the team gets into position to draft a QB next season.

i wasn't as down on Minshew as others... i came away pleased with his efforts today and thought he did an exceptional job given the circumstances.
