Attendance Question
|
It was soooooo hot yesterday. My youngest was having a hard time dealing with it. We were in and out from the concession areas throughout the game. We really need to get that retractable roof installed that they were planning or create some cover another way. But if we could actually win more, I think more would make the effort....
Let's Get Em!!!! Go Jags!

But on the flip side, it gets just as cold at Arrowhead or Lambeau and those stadiums are full. I’m not trying to antagonize, I was just curious if it’s fuller than it appears on tv. I feel like even later in the year when it cools down it’ll still be noticeably empty, regardless of record. In the cold, you can wear multiple layers to combat the elements. When it's 100 degrees and no shade, you can only take off so much clothing before you end up kicked out of the stadium. (09-09-2019, 11:17 AM)HURRICANE!!! Echoing what others have said.. heat plays a major role in our attendance. The Jags need to invest in providing shade in the stadium.
Here we go again
Just heard that fire and rescue had 86 stadium calls during the game, due to heat-related issues. This represents over 4x the amount of calls expected based on the historical norm at the stadium. ....it was hot. And for some, it is not just uncomfortable, but a serious health concern.
I've been to every September Jags game from day one and yesterday felt as if it may have been the warmest yet. But I probably say that every year.
It's always going to look as if there are relatively few at the game - just more so in September. We're Florida - it seems as if everyone is from somewhere else. The were a number of people in concourses, the Bud Zone, Dailey's Place, and anywhere there was shade. I really thought my wife would make me leave at halftime, who could blame her, but she was a trooper and we made it to five minutes into the fourth quarter. At least I got home in time to see the US Open men's finals from the beginning. I don't know how the players do it. Sure they're young and in shape, but they're wearing helmets. And some of them are 300 lbs. Amazing that I saw no one pass out - in the stands or on the field.

They should have enough space to do it and could even prepare for the full design later. They shouldn't need something this season, so they need to have something ready for next season. It was terrible, but manageable as long as you were prepared. Brought a frozen bottle of water, cooling towels, hat, misting fan. Then wet hat and towels, wet your shirt if needed. Most of the fans were not prepared. (09-09-2019, 02:10 PM)p_rushing Wrote:(09-09-2019, 12:56 PM)Preach Wrote: Echoing what others have said.. heat plays a major role in our attendance. Some rich guy (Shad Khan ... hmm) should have bought up a billion bottles of water and made them available, free, to everyone - or at least everyone who was under 15 or over 50. Something like that. Would have been great pr and greatly appreciated.

Even free bottles of water wouldn't have mattered much as just drinking water wasn't enough. You needed to either wet your clothes or get out of the sun to cool off. Maybe they should have done a free bottle of water with any food purchase. Prices are high enough they have to be making a killing. Need some company like Burger King or McDonalds to take over and provide combo meals under $10. (09-08-2019, 06:57 PM)Jagzfanfromiowa Wrote: I’ll Hey just a question for the locals. I’m from Iowa, so obviously I do most of my rooting from home in front of my tv. I always notice that the stadium is never packed. Even when we’ve a lot of hype, or are hosting a big opponent, the stadium is noticeably empty. Just curious why this is? There are times when the stadium has some thin areas on the visitors side (which is what the TV always shows) but there are games where it is pretty crowded too. The home side (less in direct sunlight) is usually full. A couple other come to mind, the Green Bay game in 2016, the Houston (Oilers) game in 96 (they said there were 100 people taken out and the stadium ran out of water to sell) and the New England game last year...but this one seemed like the hottest. You can partially mitigate it but you can't really prepare for that kind of heat.
I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.

I decided a few year ago that I was done with excruciating heat. Luckily our Titans game is on Thursday night but then again, the nation will once again see Derrick Henry running right through our paper defense.
I didn't go to yesterday's game due to personal circumstances. However, I recall one game that I think could have been a September game when Donovan McNabb threw up in the 4th quarter near the north endzone because of the heat. I also recall several players having to get iv's to re-hydrate because of it.
The heat is no joke and could potentially be deadly. There are 10 kinds of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those who don't. McNabb threw up in the February 2005, Jax hosted super bowl in the 4th qtr, due to exhaustion or jitters... They ended up losing by 3.

I was sitting kind of at mid-field and remember a QB stepping back from center and puking. It happened near the north end zone at roughly the 10 yard line. It couldn't have been the Super Bowl because I didn't go to that game. There are 10 kinds of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those who don't. Bobby Shaw had ran the punt return back for a touchdown and we won the game but he did throw up during that contest ![]() (09-09-2019, 04:46 PM)jagibelieve Wrote:(09-09-2019, 04:40 PM)BritJag Wrote: Good recap, wrong game. You're right, I was sitting in the end zone for that game so it must have been 2005 or before. The Eagles fans before the game were saying "What heat? Our players will just drink pickle juice." Say what? Anyway, it looked like that's what he threw up, I think he still made the play after though, lol.
