Having seen Minshew for three weeks now and taking note of his ball placement, I think that TE seam route will not be a great challenge for him to drop in accurately. DeFilippo said in preseason he wants to move Oliver all over the formation to create mismatches.  This could add up to some big chunk yardage plays if the rook can get healthy.

It's a good question. 

There are a few answer attempts 

• DeFilippo is still figuring out his offensive roster within his scheme to a degree (but it's time for eval to be over now)
  
• Watching all of Fournette's runs from Thursday, on all but four of them he was totally doomed by his o-line - he's not blameless - but it was ugly up front in that game. Really ugly. 
  
• There needs to be a come-to-Jesus sit down between Flip, Marrone, and Warhop to figure out some run-blocking changes. What they are doing is NOT working. 
  
• I think it's only a matter of time before Flip sees the need to spell 27 and give defenses a different look out of the backfield (I hope that time is less than 8 days)

I hope your're right because it leaves me completely baffled.  Watching our run game reminds me of a 12-year-old playing a video game; how can the OC of a professional sports team be so utterly obtuse? Furthermore, why is he allowed to continue to do that? Shouldn't Marrone, at some point, suggest to Flip that, maybe, um, you know, try something else? It's maddening.

I'm looking at it as a new OC coming in and doing whatever he can to make that first round pick pay off the way it was envisioned. Sort of a due diligence situation. 

After three games, the hour is nigh for that OC to explore other options. 
Ideally some outside zone runs for Armstead and some C.o.P. gadget plays for Ozigbo - with LF playing 60% of the snaps instead of 90+%.  While I do believe the line's poor blocking is a greater problem than Fournette, I think these changes would help the run game regardless.

He really was aggressive to get the jags to a 14-0 lead on Thursday. Contrary to the semi-popular belief Minshew is being handcuffed. 

The first two possessions resulted in 14 points and the first down calls were 3 passes and 2 runs. 
One of those 1st down passes was a touchdown.

I would be hard pressed to see him sustaining his current pace. Not a knock against Minshew, but I mustache you a question: how many sixth-round QBs can you think of that have ended their rookie season by starting 15 games, completing 70% of their passes and keeping their INTs in the single digits? I want it to happen, but especially in an offense as aggressive as Flip's, there will come a point at which defenses either figure out how to slow Minshew down or figure out how to slow the offense down.

But yeah, maybe 6-10 is a bit low if Minshew holds up and we find a running back.

I mustache you a question in return good sir!  Why must you obsess over Marrone so hard? We just beat the hated tittians, embarrased them in front of the nation even. Why must every post of yours come back to firing the coach, such that you create implausible negative scenarios to have a reason to do so? This team could easily be 5 and 3 when Foles is ready and we have an honest to diety controversy, why the need to fixate on the coach?

Obsession? Nah. I believe him to be a subpar coach who can't control his locker room. That's a problem that will eventually need to be solved.

It's not a full blown air raid offense but it's enough for our actual playmakers to execute and make plays. We gotta play to our strengths and it finally seems like our strength is being airborne..

Excluding the Mark Brunell glory days.. we’ve never had a strong downfield attack. Not with Leftwich, not with Garrard, Bortles, etc

I think we should switch to a zone-blocking scheme for running the ball. It's painfully obvious we don't have the requisite power in our Guards to run power/gap schemes (which sucks because that plays directly to Fournettes strengths). We're going to have to manufacture production in the run game and I think a change in approach as far as philosophy may yield results. Fournette was actually really good in college at reading outside zone plays, just make one cut and go.

Everyone that's blaming fournette is putting the cart before the horse. Norwell got WHIPPED by the Tacks front 7, Fournette was hit in the backfield as soon as he took the handoff on about half the running plays we ran, the other times the crease the play was designed to create on power-O was either miniscule or non-existant ... we just dont blow anyone off the ball, if we can't move them off the line of scrimmage we can't call gap plays.

Yeah, I think both Fournette and Armstead would find creases with some stretch and outside zone run plays. 

Hopefully the tape from Thursday night is enough for this staff to make some changes in the run game.

Norwell and Linders style of play is more of a power/gap style than any kind of zone. Norwell in particular is very limited athletically.

I don't think it's a lack of power problem, rather a coaching and playcalling problem

Pass blocking perhaps? I noticed a few good pickups in that regard from Fournette.

Have we run any 2 back sets this season? I can't remember seeing any the other night. It seemed like every run was Fournette as the lone back. Maybe if we disguised some of those looks with 2 back sets, we could get a little more traction. Put Ozigbo back there with Fournette and give him a few carries.
