Baldy Breakdown on Fournette's big day

#1

I'm sure y'all will appreciate this as much as I did. I certainly wasn't fully aware of how and how much they were using Seth Devalve to open up the holes.

Great job scheming to get our running game open.

A bunch of great schemes and designed runs

The audible made by Minshew was big. A lot of rookies would just go up and run the called play at that spot on the field and that change made a huge difference.

Fournette looked like a new person. Where was this vision before?

The opposing defense can no longer line 8 up in the box all game. They have to fear Minshew and the long ball. This should open up Fournette even more.

Without going back to study, I seem to recall the team had LF in a single back set, without the H-Back acting as a full back for most of the first three games.

Maybe they needed to learn LF flourishes with a full back in front of him.

Whatever they did, I hope it continues.  It will only help Minshew and/or Foles when he returns.

There was a step up in use of the lead blocker for sure.  He added the extra tackle quite a bit too in Denver.

Credit should also go to Norwell for his best game as a Jag.

So I'm not crazy- at least as it pertains to this point?

But I hope they keep it up.  I can imagine what the offense will be like once Oliver is implemented into the offense while utilizing these formations.

With the running game now a viable concern, play action should be more effective.

Yes, it was huge.

One of the concerns I had about Minshew coming out of Wazzu was that offense.  With a pass happy offense like that, there is always a concern that it inflated Minshew's numbers.

While that may be true, perhaps it had its benefits as well.

Maybe somehow it gave him a better understanding of passing fundamentals, protections, pocket presence, coverages, how to throw particular passes, etc.

Granted, he would have to translate those skills to this offense, but he seems so advanced for his age and experience.

He's had more good moments and games (and proportionally fewer bad moments) in these first four than Gabbert had his entire career here, and certainly fewer bad moments than Bortles had in his first four games (though in fairness to BB5, Minshew has a much better team around him than BB5).

His vision was certainly better, but we saw Fournette running with more tenacity than any time since his injury during his rookie season.

I didn't get the impression he was running scared like I normally do. It was like he had something to prove.

Think Fournette reads the forum. Didn’t like being regarded as someone who closes his eyes after handed the ball for the play at the line. It’s as if he opened the tunnel vision minds eye behind oline that blew everyone’s mind,, that true grit, that faith, that infectious sense of faith that Minshew brought to the table with the deep passing game, which exceeded to 2/3rds from his previous starts on first and second downs; opening up the running game! That number needs to double so we won’t be sweating an 0-4 team winning with four seconds left on the clock!

Defense is believing too, we need to get our passing offense into the top ten rather than 22nd with a QB who has the best passer debut rating ever!

Fournette Praises the Oline

"The O-linemen had a dinner Thursday and [center Brandon Linder] and everybody else was like 'We're going to get you there this week' and I believed in them," Fournette said. "I think little things like that, just bonding outside of football, going to lunches with each other. That's part of timing, too. We're getting the trust back."

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000001...trust-back

Minshew is in top ten in the category of time to throw, yet he is only averaging 7.7 yards per completion. We need more deep passing with all the time he has to throw to get the box from being stacked to the point Fournette is in the top ten for the average of plays with 8 defenders in the box.

I think he scores on that long run but he peeked to the right and thought the ref was a defender

I don’t wanna hear LF is slow, no vision, no wiggle, etc.

There’s a reason why we drafted him at #4. If everyone does there job, LF can take over a game.

Trust me, nobody wants to take on that freight train late in the 3rd quarter and 4th quarter.

Fournette apologizes to Minshew

Tony Bosseli really pissed me off acting like it has been Fournette carrying this team all along, a guy who has not found the end zone yet, let alone led all games in rushing. Minshew led all the RBs combined in rushing the Texan game. Hey Toney take Marks jockstrap off your forehead, it’s blinding you. Acting like he hasn’t seen Minshew throw it over the middle. Glad to see Fournette get that chip off his shoulder.

Don’t get me wrong, Fournette is a beast, the more we open this offense and take the heat off of the line with the deep passing game, the more Fournette can be a beast out there behind that offensive line.
