What do we do with Josh Dobbs, once Foles returns?

Right your point is that somehow that 5th round pick is going to drastically change our roster for the better more than Dobbs would You don't know that. Many 5th rounders last less than 3 seasons or are PS fodder for their careers. Using late round picks to try and salvage a season isn't a bad move. (The bad move was not holding on to Hyde after using said capital) And with the QB room, Minshew could have stunk it up and been 0-4 in his first 4 starts and we'd want to have another option this year. You are (more than likely) very alone in your whining of the "misuse" of this pick We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
What happens to Dobbs, he goes on IR with a phantom injury and becomes a camp body next year.

As a pattern, I don’t want to give up draft capital, whatever it may be, if it isn’t getting us closer to the ultimate goal of winning a super bowl. A third string QB isn’t. It reeks of a front office doing whatever it takes to stay borderline competitive to save their jobs. Same with the Hyde trade. As a fan, my expectations are higher. Just my opinion, don’t really care if you don’t agree or if I’m “very alone”. I’m not looking for some majority vote just stating my opinion. This front office has made good decisions and bad ones. I think this was a bad one.(10-22-2019, 04:35 PM)Jags32250 Wrote: Tanner Lee is awful, that’s not the point. Sorry but the front office does make mistakes and these are two examples. You can argue but you’d be wrong. Haha haha laugh it up!

Which QB would have been better for a 5th round pick to back up an unknown 6th round pick when Foles got injured? How many 5th round picks have actually been good enough to help the team? Last I checked, the last 5th round pick worth much of anything was Josh Scobee in 2004. A case might have been made for Telvin Smith picked in 2014, but he quit. So just how valuable is a 5th round pick? There are 10 kinds of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those who don't.
I say keep him cause jags have really really bad luck with players getting injuryed, and lots of times to it seems to be key players on the team.

Desmond King, George Kittle, DJ Reader, Tyreek Hill are just a few really, really good 5th round picks over the past couple years. And hell, the Seahawks just traded a 5th for an actual solid player in Quandre Diggs. That's what winning franchise do with draft picks. We show less advertisements to registered users. He was 18 of 33 with 0 touchdowns and 2 Interceptions. He was erratic and reckless, which is why the Steelers drafted Rudolph. He just failed to progress from the time they drafted him. We got hosed on that deal! When Rudolph was out with a concussion, they brought a guy in off the street to start for them against the Chargers, in a real game. But yeah, as most have cited already. Seems like another hasty decision to throw a 5th RD pick away. They did it with Kessler. They did it with Hyde. This is an interesting point. It appears Caldwell has set the 5th round as the highest round he'll go for a player that would only serve their purposes for the remainder of the season. Perhaps the thought is that if you get a decent season out of a 5th round pick, that's good enough and anything more is frosting on the cake. Then again, Caldwell will tend to get several good years out of his 5th rounders, so that logic doesn't really cut the mustard. As it relates, a few teams still carry three QBs. Not counting the Saints who have a 3rd QB who also plays as a TE or the Chiefs who just activated Sudfeld with Mahomes injured, several teams are keeping three QBs this season including the Steelers, Ravens, Bengals, Raiders, Chargers, Giants, Eagles, Redskins, Lions, Panthers and 49ers. That's over 1/3rd of the league.

The thing about the fifth rounder trades is that you have to get value. They needed a RB really badly when they got Hyde but they didn't use or keep him around enough to get value. That was a fail. With Dobbs - it was again driven by an immediate need due to injury - and if they still rate him highly at year's end and keep him into next season he could become a long term back-up/ developmental prospect. Especially if they trade Foles ahead of the deadline in 2020 or prior to 2021. He still has a chance to be worthy of the traded pick IMO. If he's jettisoned before next September, it's another fail.
