We run nickel instead of base most of the time largely as just a basic response to opponents lining up with multiple receivers whether they are running or passing. While base should (on paper) be more effective vs the run, you have to respond to the opponents personnel in kind, so nickel gets the nod frequently out of coverage necessity. O's will try to get LB's in mismatches with TE's and RB's and with their size and speed now, it's hard to find guys who can do it all and it does seem the attitude has been speed can cover mistakes. Speed can cover bad coverage. I'm not sure how much nickel we have run and Hayden has had a solid year so far, the nickel shouldnt be more effective in run D than a SAM LB. I agree, its felt we've played more nickel than traditional 4-3 but I also think it's that Hayden can do more than the LB's in that role. He can play the run or pass which is a big help. Like you say, O's run a lot of 3 WR sets which automatically switches you to nickel. That was one of the perks of having Telvin and Myles in the 4-3, they were quick enough to cover TE's, RB's and slot WR's so you could stay in 4-3 if you wanted. I dont think we have that flexibility yet.
Speaking of bye weeks, I have always like them, because it is a stress free Sunday where one can spend the afternoon watching RedZone and not worrying about the Jaguars.

He looks like he's probably about 0% body fat too.

Jack looks like he carries some fat around his waist. I saw it in one of the recent videos from Ashlyn Sullivan. Dude isn't fat, and it isn't like this is a big deal, but he looks like he probably isn't as conditioned as he should be. (11-08-2019, 05:31 PM)hb1148 Wrote:(11-08-2019, 11:09 AM)NYC4jags Wrote: a. Myles Jack easily weighs 240 pounds, not 225. I stood face to face with him and shook his hand just a few months ago and I feel confident in that appraisal. He's taller than Bobby Wagner and easily within 5 pounds of him - and that's the prototype in this defensive scheme. He was 245 at the combine and there's no way he dropped 20 pounds over the past couple seasons.
Good video here looking at how Saleh and the 49ers moved away from the Seattle D style. Could we do the same?

The biggest knock on Jack is that he has little to no natural instinct at the MLB position. None I've been saying this from day one while most mocked me for doing so. Also, I knew that it was an major mistake to pay him as we did. He'll never live up to that contract. Never NH3...

LOVE THEM JAGUARS!
Maybe Moses shows he is recovered from his ACL tear and we use the Rams 1st on him. That could very quickly turn our LB corps from a weakness to a strength.
This season, the Chiefs have lost to the Texans, Colts, and now the Titans.

Can't teach instinct and Myles Jack doesn't have any. He will never be a good MLB.
Jack should be on the outside, he is never gonna be a good MLB.
Looking back at 2016 draft (which people praised DC mightly for getting Jack in the 2nd LOL) we could have had Chris Jones, Xavien Howard, Michael Thomas, Kevin Byard... I was always bummed “my team” didn’t play. But I had a pretty busy weekend so, for the first time, I felt the same way. It was almost like a mini vacation just casually watching the other games. Seeing all the upsets around the league helped I think. I was thinking, for once, this fan isn’t upset, not this week! We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
