NFL.com - Marrone: Lack of Fournette carries is 'on me' as HC

It's all about balance. I just hate the predictability with this offense at times. There's a [BLEEP] ton of blame to go around for the inconsistencies this year across the board but it all circles back to coaching. I questioned it during the preseason. And my questioning is still there after seeing it carry over into the regular season. The overall lack of starting time this starting offense had as a unit during the preseason bothered me. Bothered a lot of people. I can't remember who said it in another thread. Maybe it was you? But it feels like Marrone and Wash coach "not to lose" at times. And that also seems to ring true with their approach regarding the personnel. These guys barely [BLEEP] practice today in the NFL. I know we're concerned about injuries here and there but IMHO it would be better to get the chemistry developed and shake the rust off with live rounds. Come whatever may from that but you can't keep babying these guys and taking it easy in today's NFL. Players are typically in and out of teams these days. There's clearly no loyalty anymore between the teams and players. Unless you're a bad [BLEEP] QB that you can mold and shape anybody around. But for the most part? The rest of these guys are expendable. You could make a case here and there at maybe RB, DE and LT. But even those players have to play exceptionally well to be retained. The tinhorns didn't blink shipping off Clowney this year. The Giants didn't blink shipping off Beckham Jr. List goes on and on. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? So you look at that and think, if only he hadn't grabbed his ankles, he would have regained his balance and kept going? You can say that with a straight face? Seriously? If you can find one clip of him legitimately running over someone I can find 10 of him getting up-ended by a DB 30-50lbs lighter than him for every 1 you find. He's garbage. The scheme doesn't matter to me a bit if it works. Hell, run the damn Wing T out there if we can get 300 yards and 28 points out of it. Just do something that works and quit doing what doesn't. You got it... How Jerry Rice trained: In team workouts he was famous for his hustle; while many receivers would trot back to the quarterback after catching a pass, Rice would sprint to the end zone after each reception. He would typically continue practicing long after the rest of the team had gone home. Most remarkable were his six-days-a-week off-season workouts, which he conducted entirely on his own. Mornings were devoted to cardiovascular work, running a hilly five-mile trail; he would reportedly run ten forty-meter wind sprints up the steepest part. In the afternoons he did equally strenuous weight training. These workouts became legendary as the most demanding in the league, and other players would sometimes join Rice just to see what it was like. Some of them got sick before the day was over. Yeah. He was scary to watch though. Just as bad as Tiki Barber with ball security. He'd truck three or four defenders on one play and then get carried away on the next play and showcase his butterfingers. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? What bothers me so much about Fournette is he's having the same problems he had in College... no vision, lack of balance, no lateral quickness... so our scouts either decided those weren't important for a running back... or they just looked at stats and not his actual tape.
Doug clearly possesses photos of Shad and Tony with a goat in nature.
There is truly no other explanation why this guy remains employed as a HC
Have you ever noticed when a tackler comes at him he puts his head down and runs with his feet close to the ground. He is easy to trip up running this way.
2019 Jaguars were never intended to be a "power running" team. If you look at the roster makeup from the very start, it is built to pass the ball and rush the passer. They were built to play with a lead. They were always going to be a pass heavy team under Nick Foles. Look at the KC game with Foles: 3 runs (28%), 8 pass (72%). Yea, slightly different circumstance, but really they're just picking up where they left off.
In this case, the coaching staff probably knew they couldn't stop the Colts running game. They tried to get ahead, thought they had good matchups in the passing game, but it didn't work out for whatever reason. I think it was more a surprise to them that the passing game didn't pan out than how many carries Fournette got. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! One of my big irritations watching football is when, third down and less than 10, they send some receivers out past the first down marker, throw to a guy who is not past the first down marker. Guess what? they left him open for a reason, he will not get to the first down marker. It never works. Should go down in the stat books as an incompletion for the quarterback, and a dropped target for the wide receiver, in my opinion.
My fellow southpaw Mark Brunell will probably always be my favorite Jaguar.

We don't agree much but on 3rd and anything (outside of a designed RB screen) I hate it when they throw anything short of the sticks. 3rd and 6, run a 3 yard out and try to turn up field for the other 3 yards slightly undersized wide out. 3rd and 3, let's throw a wr screen -1 yd behind LOS to the side with 3 wrs and 3 cbs and hope the wr can beat his unblocked man. But hey... I'm no OC, so what the Hell do I know. Death of the Franchise - November 29, 2011 Fans deserve better. Thanks for all the good times too many are in the past.
It's going to be miserable on Sunday. They are going to force LF, the same player who was shut down except for 1 run the last time. Look for the Titans to stack the box and the Jags to force the run into it.

I saw the colts throw a pass short of the scrimmage line on 3rd and mile and convert. It's one of those things that is common in most offenses but people zero in on it when the offense struggles. No one complains about the WR screens when they are rattling of 11-15 yards repeatedly. As soon as two of them are defended well though - "Stop these stupid screens!!! Rip that page from the playbook!!!" While the patriots alter their gameplans tremendously at times according to opponent, I've watched plenty of games wherein Brady threw short of the sticks very frequently. Given the Jags protection issues up front, I'd expect we'll continue to see plenty of those routes to help Foles get the ball out quickly and I don't have a problem with it. Westbrook, Chark, Cole and Conley have all shown ability to generate YAC pretty consistently in those situations but sometimes the defense is just going to win on those plays.

Even Cann was a highly rated guard in his draft. "Why should I give information to you when all you want to do is find something wrong with it?" |
