Take the teal shades off. Minshew had some baaaaaaaaaaaad games mid-season. Had foles not come out looking like Blaine Gabbert, he'd probably still be starting in 'shew's place. Larry is a shell of his HOF self. Yea... except turn the ball over. Murray is way better at doing that than Minshew. Minshew really doesn't have much of a team around him. And his coaches didn't design anything for him. Kyler Murray was handed a coach that loved him and they built a system specifically for him. No one is doing that for a 6th rounder. Next year Minshew is going to be elite if he gets the coaching that will make an offense for him. Book it.

Then there's games like Oakland and Texans first game where he looked unplayable for 3 quarters. Bengals game looked a lot worse than it did statistically. I'm a fan but he's definitely had bad games (as all rookie will) (12-19-2019, 02:11 PM)flgatorsandjags Wrote:(12-19-2019, 11:36 AM)Kane Wrote: Yes Kirk is a good WR (and also a rookie). Not saying he isn't. I'm just saying, the lack of talent on AZ is comparable to our lack of talent. They're on their 3rd RB iirc, that they acquired via trade. Their OL is trash. They have no stud TE and I couldn't for the life of me name a WR after Kirk and Fitz. But Kirk isn't a rookie though. I do agree that the talents on the offer see is comparable. Not sure why I thought Kirk came out this year. If Minshew pops his ACL, he's roughly the same player coming back, physically, that he was when he went out. He's not exactly a blazing athlete in the first place, and a lot of his runs are successful because he waits long enough that the defense is spread out and can't converge on him right away. If Murray pops his knee badly enough, he goes from a dynamic dual-threat to a 5'9" pocket passer. Yes, the ceiling is sky-high, but so is the risk of ending up with a badly broken QB. ACL tears do not ruin your level of speed to that degree.
I was under the mistaken impression this thread was about Grier. Guess I have the wrong thread.

Perhaps he can develop in an off season... 6 weeks ago I thought Cam was as good as gone and Allen/Grier were their definite guys of the future, with one of the two eventually developing into a legit starter. Now... I'm not so sure Carolina doesn't retain Cam to finish out his contract and let those guys develop a little more. Allen faded after starting hot (kinda like Minshew) and Grier just didn't look good. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

It seemed like Minshew was considered more for it during the first half of the season when he was playing really well. Now not as much in this 2nd half especially after he was benched. I do think though that neither one of them may win it and that it will probably go to Josh Jacobs from the Raiders. Minshew still has a chance to be nominated and win the Pepsi Rookie of the Year Award. I had mentioned this in another thread a little while ago, but Pepsi looks at all different rookie nominees/winners of the Pepsi Rookie of the week awards. And they nominate five rookies. With all of the times he's won this season, I could see Minshew being nominated for the yearly award. And it's fan voted and would allow him to probably go to Miami during the Super Bowl festivities. Pepsi holds a rookie brunch during these festivities and there is trophy handed out to their rookie of the year winner. So Minshew could win that award if enough fans vote for him. And sometimes the Pepsi Rookie of the Year award winner is different than the OROY award winner. Teddy Bridgewater won it in 2014, but OBJ won the OROY award that year. Also, regarding Will Grier, he did have a rough first game. But he's a rookie, it's his first game, and he hasn't had hardly any opportunity to work with the 1s. I think he can possibly show growth and develop, I just don't know how much of an opportunity he may get to do that. He'll probably get next week and then after that, I'm not sure what the Panthers will do with the QB situation. Cam seems like he wants to come back, so maybe they will roll the dice with him for another year. |
