Marrone and Caldwell Comments from Combine
|
Both of these guys had a few interesting things to say, beginning with Marrone stating that the QB position will be an open competition between the 3 players on the roster.
(Dave, meanwhile cited Gardner as "someone we can build around should we choose to") I'll post the full videos soon. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Key points:
- nothing new on Yann - Bouye's contract not unreasonable, team will explore options though - nothing new on Campbell - they are interested in bringing Dareus back - Dave thinks Oliver and Q. Williams are candidates to make a Chark-esque leap in their 2nd years - Jack could well be moving to Will - Dave said the O-line is one of our strengths, also talked about off script QBs in regards to that - Doug said Minshew, Foles and Dobbs will all be competing to start - Both Doug and Dave talked positively about Fournette, Dave said a decision on the 5th year will come after the draft
Based on Caldwell's comments about Jack I suspect/wonder if we we may see three or four distinct (personnel-wise) LB packages depending upon player acquisition.
I think they may go back to moving Jack around situationally and try to coach him up to focus on his specific role per snap rather than everyone else's. It's a stretch, but I'm spitballing here. Yeah I think you're right, especially with him talking up Quincy Williams' versatility and coverage ability too. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Imagine adding Isaiah Simmons to that mix.

I wanna listen to it again to understand the exact context, but it could be a sign they won't be looking at OL early in the draft. I still think Can Robinson is our most likely starting LT next year. I wouldn't pay much heed to it. They've spent a lot of assets on the oline and admitting it's bad would be a way of saying they failed.

Unless Caldwell is smokescreening his interest in tackle prospects, this F.O. must really believe the knee recovery held Cam back significantly in 2019. I hope they are right if that's actually the case, because I don't have much optimism in him improving drastically.

The only way I could MAYBE make a case for passing up on him is if Okudah is there or Brown is there. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? Thomas could well be a good option for us at 9, but I think you're exagerrating his draft stock. Most mocks don't have him going in the top 9 at all. He's been compared to Ronnie Stanley. Good company. Bucky Brooks on NFL.com has him going 8th to Arizona Drafttek has him going 8th to Arizona Walterfootball has him going at 8th to Arizona NFLDraftCountDown has him going 4th to New York PFF thinks highly of him grade wise. https://www.pff.com/news/draft-2020-nfl-...as-georgia I don't think anyone's wrong about his stock at the moment. Plenty of needy teams in front of us that might take him. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? I, who was born in a naked land and bred in the open sky. He's taken in the top 9 in 6 out of the 19 mocks there. Like I say, good player who may well be in play for us at 9, but far from a guarantee that they would pull the trigger. What I couldn't understand is how they went into last season without any other real options at left tackle when Robinson wasn't really playing well enough before the injury. Was he supposed to magically play better than he ever had coming off a major knee injury? I can see them counting on him making a leap in performance with that experience and a fully healthy off season to prepare for next year. It's also lying season, so smokescreen could very well be in play too. Either way, I'm all for drafting the best big men they can get with the first two picks if the right guys fall to them... Planet Theory.
I googled Mekhi Becton .... sure hope he's the guy on the left. #4 depresses me just looking at this pic.
