Jaguars undecided on Foles, Minshew as starter

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000001...as-starter

Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone and general manager David Caldwell are offering no clues on whether Nick Foles or Gardner Minshew will be the 2020 starting quarterback.

I think it's smikescreen to try and move Foles. If teams think he could be the starter more chance to move him.

Why can’t this front office just admit that they whiffed on a Foles and move on. I really hope it’s a smokescreen like icey14 said

  • They aren't going to show their hand about the QB situation if they are considering moving Foles
  • They aren't going to bad mouth a player they still actually like and just paid handsomely even if he's second fiddle in their minds
  • They likely do indeed want to see what their big investment is capable of removed farther from the injury
  • Not a damn thing wrong with camp competition
  • Caldwell's comments about building around Minshew (if need be) suggest they are quite ready to take that approach and I'd wager that's the primary template for their offseason acquisition plan

Yeah... Dave could even be like "Yeah, he wasn't my choice... it was the other guy"

Yawn....Minshew is the starter. Anybody with a brain knows this. Sometimes I wonder if coaches and players say stuff just to see journalists run back and start typing!

I honestly don't see a problem with Foles being the starter as long as he truly beats out Minshew.  Minshew isn't going anywhere.

That said, I doubt it will happen.

Exactly.

I mean, seriously.  Caldwell said yesterday that they're very happy with their offensive line.  This is the same line that allowed their $88M man to bust up his shoulder 10 plays into the 2019 season.

Foles actually outplayed Minshew during camp last year, so it stands to reason that competition will be an interesting one to watch this time around with the 2nd year QB getting so much playing time, and ending the season as the starter.
Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Consider the alternative sound bytes:

"We're going to roll with Nick as the starter, because we paid him to be the starter."

"Whether or not Nick outperforms him next preseason, we're rolling with Minshew. I mean, that mustache!"

Are either of those a better thing to hear from your team leadership?
