If we are in rebuild mode...

#1

Why are we allowing Caldwell and this inept FO another year to make the picks while we have good draft capital, while they are on a "1 year trial mode"?

Coughlin was absolutely an impediment to this organization while he was here but I think we should have cleaned house from top to bottom - because this might lend more time for the FO to let the picks pan-out in the coming years.

I think #becausejaguars has been the correct answer an awful lot these past few months... and the NFL season hasn't even officially began.

This is going to be a long season for us.

It all depends on Khan's objective.  If it's to con the fanbase and the NFL to make a move to London, he's a genius.  He's alienating the players and the fans.  Good players can't wait to get out of here, and by moving a 2nd home game to London he's made the Jaguars even less competitive.  Keep the Caldwell/Marrone disaster going to destroy any possibility of hope.

Honestly I dont think this move signifies a shift to a rebuild mode. I think Dave has targets in FA that he feels are better use of the money in helping us win now.

But your questions about why the same coaching staff and FO are here are undeniably valid.

Bingo, that is kind of what I feel. Even with our AFC championship game. Kind of feel like he did not want a super bowl win because it would force him to have to stay here longer. (I know I might be reaching but the disaster here is so crazy, you would think professional couldn't make that many mistakes and still their jobs)

Dave can think he has targets in FA all he wants, but without grossly overpaying (which they'll have to do regardless), why would any of them want to come here?

Players in this league talk to each other. You can guarantee that there's been plenty of players who have reached out to Ramsey, Ngakoue, Bouye, ARob etc etc, just for some insight on this clown show. Bouye even admitted as much, when he said players reached out to him about all the fines/NFLPA nonsense that was going on. I can't imagine they'll have very positive things to say about what's really going on here behind the scenes.

I just can't imagine any top FAs wanting to come here, unless we simply offer at least 10-20%+ more $$ than the next highest bidder. We're going to have to offer guys unreal amounts of money and the chances of them just going through the motions on a "vacation" are probably pretty high.

Lets face facts here. There hasn't been a single positive thing that has come out of this Franchise in years. 2017 is a long time ago. From players being public about how bad it is here. The NFLPA being public about how this franchise treats their players and literally telling players not to sign here. This franchise refusing to pay their good players what they've earned, while throwing cash at terrible players/doubling down on bad players etc etc. It's really ugly.

This franchise is flat out in an awful place right now and you can bet your [BLEEP] that the players around this league see it. Really our only hope is that they nail every pick in this draft and we have an ultra productive draft class as rookies and beyond. This is a lot deeper than just a 1 year quick fix. It's most definitely a rebuild, again.

Here is the deal.... Tony Khan really wants to be a GM. He dreams about it. He is like the kid in The Toy and Richard Pryor is the Jaguars to him.

Shad Khan keeps weak-kneed Dave around because he can take the punches of Tony's horrible behind the scenes GM decisions.

Is relying on free agency to improve this team even close to a sound strategy at this point?

Forget that a heavy reliance on free agency led to the salary cap issues contributing to the purge we are seeing now.

Forget the past failures we've had in free agency.

The NFLPA hammered this franchise in a letter to all of the players.  I've never seen that before.  Ever.

The players around the league see how every good player leaves skidmarks trying to get out of here.

The London thing isn't helping, to say nothing about the national recognition that will never come your way because they play in Jacksonville.

Very well stated.

If the team is relying on free agency to build this team, it makes the refusal to pay Yan even more infuriating.  The team is willing to overpay-even dramatically so-players who have contributed absolutely NOTHING to this team, yet they are unwilling to reward a guy who epitomizes what fans want in a player, who has been healthy and productive and ea until the team botched the negotiations willing to re-sign here.

I wonder about just how bad this organization is compared to others. Tom Coughlin was the genesis of the conflict and the subsequent NFLPA letter but certain players continue to throw shade even though TC is long gone. And have you noticed that whenever a player hits the door Jalen Ramsey’s prissy little head lights up on social media. It makes me wonder if he’s part of a little clique that is carrying a grudge of Tom Coughlin butt hurt. Almost all are defensive players that ran in a group.

Far fetched, I know. But it makes me wonder.

1.  Allen Robinson, a WR, has also trashed the Jaguars in recent seasons.

2.  Why are the Jaguars jettisoning all of these defensive players in the first place>  Even if you assume that Fowler and Ramsey were some sort of troublemakers, what about Bouye and Ngakoue?

To answer your question: definitely not. But I think that's the direction they're gonna go.

We will probably end up with another bunch of moncrief, sefarian jenkins etc type of signings: mid tier players who get overpayed because they may just fill a need.

Trust me, I'm not advocating they should be big players in FA, I just think that's the route they are going down.

Personally, if they do splash the cash, I just hope it's not on an aging vet that has a few years left at best.

Ngakoue wants to get paid like the top DE in the league when his level is nowhere near that.
Bouye was expensive and has been slightly above average the last 2 seasons, not worth his contract.

Even if he is planning that his moves are stupid as [BLEEP]. You guys use the word genius on pretty much any idiot (already happened with Gene Smith and now with Khan) it is hilarious.
This is the same guy that gave 2 or 3 years more to Bradley when he clearly didn't derserve that... he is a genius though  Rolleyes

I want to add my opinion on the DL. I think Taven Bryan took some big steps forward and next year is his prove it year as a full time starter. A team with Campbell, Bryan, Jones, Allen is still a pretty decent defensive line. First round probably needs to be a DL and a CB.
Jaguars | Pacers | Purdue | Team USA

Ngakoue, like Robinson and Ramsey, doesn't want to be here. A decision initiated by Coughlin's mismanagement and prolonged by the team's general dysfunction and probable lame duck staff.

Bouye was a clear cut cap casualty who had shown decline while under a big contract.  (similar to the Malik Jackson move though the decline was not as extreme)

I echo the same thoughts. You also brought in Trent Baalke who had a reputation for butting hands with Harbaugh and York in San Francisco. You could maybe make a case for McAdoo and Gruden all having strong personalities as well.

They've both had their moments in public with disputes with players, personnel decision makers and ownership. It really feels like this S.O.B is pulling a major leauge move on this team and our fanbase.

Again. I asked this same question yesterday. What has happened that is so damn horrible in that building with management for quality players to essentially cry out or lash out for help in order to get out of here and paint a negative light on this city and team?

I still feel deep down that had Coughlin's fines and information not been leaked publicly and had the NFLPA never made a damning statement that Coughlin would STILL be in that building as VP of Football Ops.

Khan's full of [BLEEP]. Those with eyes can see it. And articles like this one don't help him any with the perceptions around town. Not that his awesome 36 or 38 wins does the trick or anything as well. . .
