Day one Draft Grades

no letters assigned.
9: Perfectly fine with the pick. Might have been a slight sacrifice in value, but the fact that he was head and shoulders the best left at his position, and filled a glaring need made the pick worthwhile. Were I the GM, I would have either looked into trade down with NYJ and grabbed Wirfs, Kinlaw, or a WR at their spot. 20: I was never a fan of Chaisson. I think this was more desperation to replace Yann than finding great value. Were I the GM, I would have used an extra pick or two to swap up with Dallas and grab Lamb. Ruiz would have been a suitable replacement for them, given Frederick's retirement this offseason. This was another dead zone for picks, though, and if we stayed at 20, I'd have probably pulled a different WR off the board, either Pittman or Mims, likely. Second worst draft, only the Raiders were worse. We really could have had Wirfs or Wills Jr and Jefferson and we went Henderson and Chaisson lol.
And don't lie anyone who had Henderson and Chaisson in any of the plethora of pre draft mock draft threads would have been laughed out of the room, and for good reason. Do not play fanatic and do not play revisionist history.

They had the chance to put premier talent around a young QB who has the game/moxie/likeabililty/star power to actually make this team somewhat relevant on the national stage and instead they chose to take a stopgap replacement player from a school full of draft busts at DB and an injury prone linebacker who was the 3rd most important LB on his team last year. A waste of two first round picks. Poor Jay Gruden, actually thought he was going to get some help. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato
The interviews with Marrone and Caldwell made it seem that DJ Chark and Jawaan Taylor's prior knowledge and history with the picks was a big selling point.

As I continue to think about this draft, it was a character/culture draft as much as anything. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!

CBS Sports had three mock drafts. Two of the three had Henderson gone by our pick at #9 and the other was only three picks behind at #12. All three mocks had Chaisson gone by #20. One of them had him in the top 10. I'm not saying that you have to agree with them, but I think you are over-doing the laugh-ability of these picks. It's all about this year.
