Grade the 2020 draft

You’re relying on a rookie corner to replace Bouye. No one can replace Campbell or Dareus this season with even close to the same production. We show less advertisements to registered users. He's going to be making at least his 9th draft next year and it will almost guarantee he extends his record breaking streak of top 10 selections too. Yep. That's exactly how it looks. They'll be lucky to win 6 games again in 2020. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? I, who was born in a naked land and bred in the open sky. Caldwell is safe until January 1, 2026, at which time he's gone so the new-look London Jaguars can hire their new coach and GM. Nothing Marrone and Caldwell has done suggests that they're on a tight leash. A team that needs to win now doesn't dump veterans left and right and replace them with projects in the draft and mid-tier free agents. Caldwell is around in 2021 no matter what, with Marrone the likely fall guy if things go south. My take is that they have done just about nothing on offense and they’re relying on rookies at vital positions to be really good. Bad Oline with no turnover and an offense relying on Eifert for a TE who is a shell of himself after all these injuries. This team averaged 7 points in the first half last year. Now could things be best case scenario for every possible “maybe” next season? Sure but that’s just not reasonable. To me, it looks like a 5 win season or so. Eifert and Shenault are pretty big additions imo. Agreed with you on the online though, that is the biggest question mark in offense, mainly RG. But its the same as last year and we won 6 games and should of been 7.
9. CJ Henderson CB - Becton, Wirfs, Wills, Ruggs, Jeudey, Lamb all better prospects than Henderson. You honestly can't say that Henderson was the 9th best player here. The scariest part is Dave said he was prepared to take Chassion at 9 if CJ wasn't there. Should have traded with the Jets and if the Falcons got to 10, just select Becton/Wirfs/Wills.
GRADE C+ 20. K'lavon Chassion DE - Can't fault Dave here. It was widely discussed predraft that this was no man's land. In our board mock draft I picked Chassion as his upside was worth the risk considering who was left on the board. Chassion is an athletic freak who turns 21 in July GRADE A- 42. Laviska Shenault WR- My favorite pick up the draft by far. I think if Chassion was gone at 20, Shenault would have been the pick. Kick return, punt return, out of the backfield (eliminating the need for a third down back), wildcat, basically can line up at every skill position on offense. Top15 pick in most draft years GRADE A+ 73. Davon Hamilton NT- Really boring pick but this was where Hamilton was slotted to go. We needed a true NT and Hamilton/Brown were the only impactful NTs in the draft. Hamilton will be a fixture of our run defense going forward. GRADE B+ 116 Ben Bartch LG- Here's where we start going absolutely downhill in the draft. This pick, I don't get. They missed on the mauler RGs right before this pick and proceeded to pick a project LG. Should have moved up here and got one of those RGs. This guy is two years away from starting but at least we have a replacement for Norwell. GRADE C 137. Josiah Scott NB Apparently once we hit the fourth round we gave up on potential starters and started going after role players. With this pick they took a nickel back and not even the best one on the board GRADE D- 140. Shaquille Quarterman ILB Moving to a 3 4, need depth at ILB, except they took Quarterman two rounds too early. Probably going undrafted. GRADE F 157. Daniel Thomas SS With potential starters still on the board we go ahead and draft an undrafted player yet again. This is a special teams draft pick all the way. Have to make sure the special teams is top shelf for next season Grade F 165. Colin Johnson WR We had this guy on our roster already as an undrafted (Allan Lazzard) but somehow we didn't keep him on the active roster so he's a Packer. Johnson will be an immediate red zone threat and easily our best third day pick. GRADE B 189 Jake Luton QB- At this point in the draft we should be targeting role players and spending flyers on QBs. I'm in that camp of always drafting a QB so I applaud this pick even though Dave is 0 for 2 on big bodied QBs. Grade B+ 206. Tyler Davis TE- Admittedly so, I know nothing about this player. Considering Eifert, Oliver, and O'shaughnessy are ahead of him in the death shart, I don't see him hitting the playing field. Obvious practice squad candidate. GRADE F 223. Chris Claybrooks NB- I understand the depth at defensive back but this seems a bit excessive. Unless they plan on trading or releasing Hayden, this is yet another puzzling pick. We selected a nickel in the fourth, why another? As it stands, we drafted a starting CB, two nickels, and a backup FS/SS in class where the secondary was the strong suit. I guess Herdon/Hayden are battling for number2? It's a bit confusing to me what the plan is with the secondary. GRADE F

Solid picks in rounds 1-3; Dave was rolling. Then, the wheels came off in rounds 4-7 with nothing special.
I give it a B-.

Here's the grade from USA Today:
C+ Jacksonville Jaguars: Seems they're building toward 2021 – Trevor Lawrence? – but nevertheless picked reputable players, including first-round CB C.J. Henderson, who should address a glaring need following Ramsey's departure. Pass rusher K'Lavon Chaisson (Round 1) – taken with a pick obtained for Ramsey – and WR Laviska Shenault Jr. (Round 2) could need a transition year, which isn't a knock but adds to the feel that this club is in a weird limbo. Speaking of which, disgruntled DE Yannick Ngakoue remains. ![]() (04-26-2020, 02:27 PM)flgatorsandjags Wrote:You can’t play the “should have” game.(04-26-2020, 02:10 PM)Cleatwood Wrote: Is that my take? Queue to Week 10 and all these "true fans" are trying to be optimistic when we're mathematically out of the playoffs. An F for the draft.

With possibly no Yan to go along with no Campbell, Bouye, Dareus, Ramsey.... Calais was PFFs #1 ranked player against the run in the whole league. Woods and Hamilton should help mitigate that loss but we added Schobert and Henderson who are poor against the run (I know CB run D doesn't matter a ton). I think we'll still get carved up quite a bit.

He's drafting for the NOW. And that's exactly what a team that needs to win now does. Caldwell is in an unenviable position. A lot of players simply want out because of how the team has been run. So that means Caldwell has to fill those holes FAST. I say Caldwell's gone barring Minshew being a Top 10 QB next season.

Pass D is totally up in the air right now and not looking like it will show any large margin of improvement unless the D-line gets consistent quick pressure and the young secondary can benefit. Possible, but nothing to bank on. I agree with pff, Calais was damn good against the run but it don't really matter when we are getting gashed right up the middle or to Yans side so it didn't really matter.
