I like his odds.

Historically the Sophomore slump tends to come from rookies who have really good rookie years. While Minshew worked plenty of magic and gave us hope, his rookie year still looked much like a rookie season with plenty of lows. Missing reads, holding the ball too long, had to make come backs late because of an inability to move the ball early.

Matt Ryan, RGme (albeith because of injury), Sam Bradford, Mayfield, Prescott (although his slumpy year was still solid), these guys had better than average or really good rookie years and then took a step back. 
I don't think Minshew was quite on that level as a rookie so I don't foresee a slump in that manner. If he "slumps" it means he's just not that good and the magic was more or less a mirage.

Add to that the amount of work he’s put in during the off-season and his chemistry with the offense. 

He’s going to be good.

I believe this too. I think he improves his vision and awareness this year. Prepares to be the starter, which is kind of a big deal. Knows the playbook which is designed for him. Has the chemistry with Chark and James O and Dede, gave him a couple more targets in Eifert and Laviska. I think he takes that step into "legit starter" territory. I dunno that he'll ever be a top 5 QB in the league but he doesn't have to be.

If we can get our defense reworked and solidify the OL in the next season or two, we could be in a very good spot with the Stache.

Boselli, Prisco, and Lageman were actually talking about his weak arm yesterday ... saying that's something you can't fix.  They eluded to the fact that he's not very good with going through his reads and often leaves the pocket to get to his 2nd and 3rd reads.

He gonna stink this season with no running game.  Most of his stats are gonna be garbage time stats when the game is basically over. You all just have a man crush because I guess you all like dudes who look they grew up in Jacksonville in the 1970s who wear daisy dukes and a headband so you can be mesmerized with his hair bouncing up and down in slow motion.

Look Len, we know you wanted Cam to come here, but it's over. Good luck with your new team.

His stats in fewer starts really were on par or better than guys like Ryan and Bradfords rookie campaigns. Although not quite as good as a guy like Prescotts rookie year...

I still think that we'll be seeing an improvement in stats this season as opposed to a slump. Better comp %, more TDs, more yards... Fewer fumbles but a few more INTs I'm willing to bet.

The absolute best case scenario would be if Minshew is great and we know he is the long term answer. Imagine a scenario where Minshew plays great but the Jaguars struggle anyway and get 1st pick.
The Jags would be able to get an absolute kings ransom from a team to move up to #1 (maybe from a team that has multiple first round picks).
Then we draft LT, CB, WR, etc.

With that said, and with LF's departure... I'm going to predict a 3-13 season.

His stats in fewer starts really were on par or better than guys like Ryan and Bradfords rookie campaigns. Although not quite as good as a guy like Prescotts rookie year...

I still think that we'll be seeing an improvement in stats this season as opposed to a slump. Better comp %, more TDs, more yards... Fewer fumbles but a few more INTs I'm willing to bet.

He outperformed Kyler Murray and Daniel Jones in fewer games IMO.  He didn't have as many WOW plays as Kyler, but his completion percentage, touchdowns, wins, comebacks, and INTs were all better.

I started doing some reading on Brady's first few years yesterday, and I don't think we'll know what we have with Minshew until about halfway through the year.

You heard it here first. It's his team now, and he's a student of the game. He's going to make the second-year leap. Things will slow down for him. His supporting cast looks to be markedly improved with two talented rookie WRs, a healthy O'Shag, a healthy Cam, Eifert, and Gruden > the Nick Foles coordinator. Chark is going to be a top 5-10 receiver, like AJ Green in his prime. Shenault is going to be a speedy Anquan Boldin. They're going to be a scary combo. Conley and Westbrook will be expendable soon. 

If Minshew builds on last season, Caldwell returns because he's finally got his franchise QB. If he doesn't, then say goodbye to Caldwell/Marrone. I think it's as simple as that to Shad. Record doesn't matter as much as, Is Minshew's arrow pointing up in 2021?

Eh, not with the same certainty. Minshew is clearly a better QB than Bortles in his heyday.

I won't argue that at this point in time.  However, Bortles did look promising in his rookie season and as I recall the hope was the same back then.  "The game will slow down for him".  "The arrow is pointing up for him". etc.  He was becoming a "franchise QB" at one point in the next couple of seasons, but regressed tremendously.

Don't get me wrong, I want Minshew to succeed and I really like him, but he's certainly got his work cut out for him this season if he's going to make it in the NFL.

If he pans out he could be a poor mans Drew Brees, or he could be a Chad Pennington type. Chad had a solid career and would have been better if he didnt have shoulder issues on an already "weak" arm.
