Offense -Skill Positions $$ (pretty sad)
|
Luckily, skill players aren't a vital part of the NFL because we're pretty much paying our entire roster of QBs, WRs, and TEs less than most starting QBs are making. This says a lot about our inability to draft, acquire, and retain proven talent at the offensive skill positions
Player Salary Cap Hit QB Mike Glennon $1,050,000 $878,125 QB Joshua Dobbs $825,000 $825,000 QB Gardner Minshew $675,000 $722,904 QB Jake Luton $610,000 $655,439 RB Chris Thompson $1,050,000 $1,368,750 RB Ryquell Armstead $675,000 $761,769 RB Devine Ozigbo $675,000 $675,000 TE Tyler Eifert $1,000,000 $3,375,000 TE James O'Shaughnessy $910,000 $1,072,500 TE Tyler Davis 610,000 $649,887 WR Keelan Cole $3,259,000 $3,259,000 WR Dede Westbrook $2,133,000 $2,302,041 WR D.J. That’s what a window looks like for a good team. Bad teams pay a ton for skill positions. Good teams just draft those players and keep a few.
Yes, it's improvement, but it's Blaine Gabbert 2012 level improvement. - Pirkster The Home Hypnotist! Media on the Brain Link! Quote:Peyton must store oxygen in that forehead of his. No way I'd still be alive after all that choking.
Russell Wilson makes about 2 million per game. The Jags have 3.1 million sunk into the QB position for the entire season. If that doesn't show the level of depravity this team has sunken to, I don't know what will.
EDIT: that's counting all FOUR QBs. If we cut Dobbs, we will be looking at spending 2,335,000 for the year on QB. Oof. “Motivation alone is not enough. Now we're on to [BLEEP] that we aren't in cap hell. Pathetic.
I guess we should've kept 4Million-ette so this number would be higher, then you could [BLEEP] about how we're overpaying the offense for the production. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato

How are they cheap? Like 90% of the offense are on rookie deals or low FA signings for depth. To have Minshew at what we are paying him is a bargin and everyteam would love a starter caliber QB for under a million a year.

We suck, we sucked last year, now we have little to no talent on the team and will more than likely suck again. They are cheap because they let everyone go that proved they can produce on the field. I want Minshew to be good but with taking everything away from him, it's like we are putting pressure on him with no help. PLease stop trying to backup the FO none of their decisions are making any sense, they can't prove it and you can't either.

Cutting Fournette is hardly "taking everything away from him", he's got some new and healthy returning linemen, a new Tight End, the same receivers...this whole thread is like something out of J-Dub's "Corky's Greatest Takes" playbook. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato

The different personalities whoever they were fed off each other and played well together. The team is going to have play a couple seasons together before that happens here again. Fournette was a workhorse, we are not sure these rbs that we have will duplicate his productivity, no matter how much yall try to downplay it. Our defense got worse so there will be pressure on Minshew and the offense to try to put up a lot of points if the defense can't stop teams from scoring. Not saying you have to agree but I don't understand how you possibly think all the changes we have had this past year is not going to do something to our 2nd year qb. It’s to be expected that a young team would have lower salaries and a lower cap. Sheesh, move along folks nothing to see here
Its kinda funny to see we almost pay the "best player/starter" of each group less than the backups...

The lesson that hopefully Caldwell learns is to rely less on free agency and more on the draft. The team has actually drafted pretty well for the last three years, and next year will probably have 4 picks in the 100. Let's hope Minshew is the guy, but if not, we'll get a good QB next year.

When contracts of their star players near, they get rid of them and state they are rebuilding. Sure, we can say we have young inexpensive players like the Pirates .... then go on to watch them succeed on much better teams

This is a results-oriented business. There are no trophies or titles given for "moral victories" or for "winning the draft". Our record with DC is 37-86. 6-10 is our 2nd best season in 8 years of Caldwell leadership. These are the FACTS.
