Polls are tight now and Rasmussen and the other one that is using alternative questions now have Trump leading nationally.

Eight lies in three minutes at his rally in Janesville, Wisconsin.    https://www.nytimes.com/2020/10/26/us/po...e=Homepage

"In one three-minute stretch in Janesville, the president made eight inaccurate statements that had been fact-checked repeatedly before.

"He claimed to have enacted the “biggest tax cut in history” (it wasn’t); that Mr. Biden was “going to raise your taxes substantially, like quadruple” (the Democratic candidate has promised no tax increase for people making less than $400,000); that “everybody owns stocks” (half of the country does not); that “we cut more regulations than any administration in history” (there is no evidence for this); that Mr. Biden would “ban fracking” (he has said he would not); that Democrats would reduce the child tax credit (Mr. Biden has promised to expand it); that it “used to take 18 to 21 years to get a highway built” but that he had reduced the time to two years (the average has been three to six years, and remains three years); and warned that Mr. Biden would impose a “draconian, unscientific lockdown” (Mr. Biden has said that if scientists believed it was necessary, “I would shut it down, I would listen to the scientists”)."

Eight lies in three minutes.  I don't understand why you guys think it's okay for a President of the United States to do that.

I dont know why you think it's ok for a presidential candidates son to get footjobs from his 14 year old niece.

BTW, Biden is going to raise your taxes.

Donald Trump is 74 years old. Had three rallies yesterday, then flew home for a SCOTUS confirmation ceremony.

Joe Biden called a lid before the day even started.

It is all in the wording.  If elected Biden will rescind the tax cuts Trump enacted.  Everyone that benefitted from those tax cuts will have their taxes raised.

There's no reason to believe Biden would do that, though.  Trump's tax cuts don't expire until the end of 2027.

On a side note, the concept alone of an estate tax is atrocious.

"For deaths occurring between 2018 and 2025, estates that exceed $11.2 million are subject to a 40% estate tax at time of death, increased from $5.6 million previously. For a married couple aggregating their exemptions, an estate exceeding $22.4 million is subject to a 40% estate tax at time of death"

The government is essentially taxing something that has already been taxed to death in the first place. The death tax is the biggest sham going in this country.

Yes, it does tax something that has already been taxed, in a way.  But in actuality, it's income to the person who inherits the estate, and that person (who did nothing to earn that wealth) has not been taxed.   Plus, a lot of people would argue that if there's no estate tax, we would probably wind up with a permanent upper class that looks like 19th century England.  So there are arguments in favor of an estate tax.

I would argue that if you eliminate the estate tax and establish a permanent upper class in this country, based on inheritance, you would cause the socialist revolution we would all like to avoid.

Death is one of the most convoluted subjects in the law.
You have wealthy people trying to avoid estate taxes.
And you have middle class people trying to look destitute so they can qualify for medicaid before they die, rather than spend all their savings on private care.

It's a mess and there's room for improvement.

But the double taxation argument is the intellectual equivalent of monkeys flinging feces.  All money flows are circular.  Every step in the flow is prone to taxation.  Any tax could be construed as a double or triple or 100x tax if you're already motivated to think about it that way.

Marty is right: The decision to tax inheritances is about creating a society based on merit, an egalitarian society.  Otherwise you have lords and ladies in all but name (and this is already happening).  Thomas Paine, the Englishman who helped kick off the American Revolution with his pamphlet Common Sense, wanted to tax inheritances at 100%!  That's extreme, of course, but it shows you that having at least some inheritance tax is part of our founding values.

On paper, it is ridiculous, and you are right, beneficiaries technically didn't "earn" the inherited estate, but the principal of it all is gross.

The fallacy in your "permanent upper class" stance is the tax dollars the government brings in from estate tax actually being used to fund lower/middle class programs.

On a side note, that is why they have estate planners, who find loopholes in this garbage.

We have a small business and between the tax increase on that and the tax "increase" (repeal of Trump's tax deal) on income from my husband's regular job, we're going to be sucking wind if Biden wins.

Even more disturbing is that reaction caught on video is no where near close to a one off. There are multiple instances of it, with multiple different people.

How are Biden and Harris any better? They're just as bad as Trump but in different ways. Neither one of them knows what they're talking about at any given time. At least Trump is coherent. Obnoxious, but coherent.

Honest question on a hypothetical Biden/Harris victory.

Do you think Joe Biden realizes they are going to remove him from office within his first year?

Don't understand why the republicans would want him out.  That would only lead to the Kamala/Bernie or Kamala/AOC scenario as President & VP.

If the President and VP dies, Pelosi becomes President.
