I'd rather have 2 franchise QB's than what we've had since Brunell left, (none at all.) Agreed. (11-08-2020, 05:19 PM)TheO-LineMatters Wrote: I've seen enough from Luton today. He is much better than Minshew. For a kid to come in with only 4 practices as a starter under his belt and keep us in this game, shows me a lot. He definitely has a stronger arm than Minshew. That is obvious. He avoids the pass rush much better than Minshew and he just throws a better looking pass than Minshew. He did make some mistakes, as any rookie would, but to be thrown in as the starter with 4 practices with the first team, I liked what I saw. Does this mean he's a franchise QB? Of course not, but he certainly deserves to be the starter from here on out. In fact, if he isn't, I'm done watching the Jaguars this season. I wanna see more of what this kid can do as he gets more reps with the first team. Dont like arguing with you but couldnt disagree more. He wasnt awful but there were plenty of wayward throws that a better D would take. It's the 1-6 Texans and Robinson was effective on the ground. This is exactly what I said would happen to Minshew. Well we are @Packers next week, lets see how he does against a good team. I fear this thread is going to go the same way as the Eating Crow threads We show less advertisements to registered users. I don't know if he's gonna be any good or not. I'm just saying it was a pretty good start, given he has only had 4 practices as a starter under his belt. I'm just saying Minshew has plateaued, so we know what he is and what he isn't. At least with Luton, there is a sense of the unknown, so there is hope. Maybe he can be good, maybe he won't. I'll take that over a definite no, any day of the week. I gotta have some kind of hope just to make it through the season. Don't take my hope away!
Keep in mind we were playing the 1-6 Texans. TBD on Luton but a good game today!

Fed Chark and still lost. Love it.

He passed the sight test. He LOOKS better than Minshew and he has trainable qualities.
Here we go again

He did ok after 1 game, see what he can do after 6 or 7. I don't know if they have a return date in mind for Minshew but he will probably start until then and then the coaches make a call. I personally would go Minshew when hes back healthy as hes the starter but we arent going to be worrying about playoffs and if we are focusing on draft spots, not saying Luton would lose you games but he could have more or a window to show what he can do.
Just don’t fall in love with another 6th round diamond in the rough. Finish the tank and go draft a franchise QB

Just a guy playing another bad team that is going to be competing with us on a rebuild. Texans D smacked us like normal and it is a 3 INT game. Defense played better but some of that is Wash finally game planning to go after an offenses weakness. I saw today another backup QB playing for a crap coaching staff.

Luton can make all the passes and should be the starter next season draft OT sewell and Pitts in the first round. We set for a run at the AFC south
What I saw today is that we can plug a 6th round rookie into our offense with no off-season and limited reps in practice and not lose a beat compared to when Minshew was in there. Small sample size, but that suggests to me that Minshew has not really added much to our offense. Minshew hasn't made the players around him better. Still too early to say for certain, but I think it is more evidence for the idea that Minshew is not the answer; and upgrading at QB could really improve this offense.
This is a results-oriented business. There are no trophies or titles given for "moral victories" or for "winning the draft". Our record with DC is 37-86. 6-10 is our 2nd best season in 8 years of Caldwell leadership. These are the FACTS.

Keep in mind that the Texans were the worst defense by EPA in the league, and they were missing two of their best defenders in Mercilus and Roby. Luton will be facing much tougher challenges from here on out.
He looked pretty good considering. Not convinced he's an upgrade over a healthy Minshew but he's definitely got more physical tools. Let the defenses get a little tape in him and see how he reacts to know more.
I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.
