Quote:A running back, in today's pass happy league, will not demand the same value in a trade vs an elite LT EVER. Unless you're an idiot GM. Maybe Irsay is an idiot or maybe its Caldwell.

Do you think Giovanni Bernard (the best young RB in the league) would demand a higher trade value vs Ryan Clady (who's considered the best LT in the game)?
If Clady only had 12 games left until he was a FA, and Bernard had 3+ years of dirt cheap salary...absolutely he would demand more.

1. We were not going to resign Monroe. Even two 4th/5th > ONE late 3rd pick.

2. Draft picks are more valued now than a few years ago because of the price caps on picks.

3. This is not NBA. Teams trade #1/#2 picks only for STARS. Heck NFL teams rarely trade period, because quite often they can find a practice squad players/UDFA somewhere and fill them into their line up, especially for the OL. Remember Brandon Albert who the Chiefs were begging to trade for a 2nd round pick and no one came close to that offer.

3. The teams that actually make the playoffs and are well run regularly find offensive linemen late in the draft. That is even LT's and RT's.

4. If the Jaguars are going to actually be a contender, you have to EXPECT them to find starters later in the draft and with UDFA. If you automatically assume that will never happen because "it's the Jaguars who do not know what they are doing", then you are automatically saying there is virtually no chance of them truly becoming a contender.

5. Cost of two Tackles taking up $13 million on the payroll is too high and not good strategy. (Franchising would have cost at min $9 for Monroe).

6. Having the "best rated/highest paid" LT does not mean you will be a playoff team.

7. Team is trying to move to zone blocking scheme which would mean A) you need linemen who can run block to fit that scheme. & B) You are looking for more athletic, faster, less heavy OL prospects that tend to be available with later picks.

8. If you are starting Caldwell/Bradley's clock when they draft their QB and for 3 years, that means you are hoping for the Jaguars to make the playoffs by 2016. Which means you would be paying Monroe a huge amount of money (~$20) to have on the team 3 years from now. When you already have your "left tackle for tomorrow" in Joekel, who would also need to be resigned in 3 years, it makes no sense to keep Monroe now when he could expedite the rebuild.

apparently it is two mid round picks.  I'd be fine with that.

The fact is....

This team is so bad, fans like us put above average players up on this huge pedestal and confuse them for being elite.

Boselli was elite. Monroe was not. LJ? Well... we'll see.

The point is he was not worth pick 8 let alone 2. And some do. But that is do to mainly red flags or QB unpredictability. This is not a situation where he has 2 plus years left and is border line elite. No one will pay him franchise top 3 tackle money. Nor will they give a high pick. Cause he has not shown elite status.

Where Trent though injury prone produced well enough for the clots to want to take that chance.

He's not elite. He's above average. PFF doesn't even consider him Elite. Lol.

Trent was very average in Cleveland before that trade.

If we traded MJD, the same crap would erupt on here how we traded an elite RB.

MJD should be traded. He's a RB who's over the hill looking for a big payday. Monroe is a player entering his prime and who's also only 26. Those are the types of players you lock up long term. Well not this franchise. We lock up middling talent like Mincey and Lowery and trade away the only players worth a darn for pennies.

Yes, the 2.8 YPC he is averaging with the Colts so far is way above average.

Quote:What a fleece job the Ravens gave Caldwell.

The Brown's just traded Richardson (a RB playing a non premium position, who put up average numbers behind one of the the league' best offensive lines) for a 1st rounder. And we are only able to muster "multiple 3rd day picks" for a top 10 LT playing a premium position.

Lol in Caldwell I trust amirite?
Bingo, Gene Smith made better trades then this, got a 5th for Mike Thomas

Hey guys remember all that crap about RT being important and you need to have two good tackles to keep the QB up right? Yea we all knew once we drafted Jockel that Monroe was gone.
