Top 3 greatest areas of need for the new GM to address right away.
|
To be blunt the cupboard is bare. This team lacks talent on both sides but some areas need immediate addressing in the worst way!
1. The obvious QB spot. We need a guy that we can build around. If Lawerence is the guy and we own the #2 pick, maybe the Jets are willing to deal? 2. Pass Rush: Opposing Qb's have it too easy. Wash sucks but he has nobody efficient at rushing the passer right now. The whole defensive line including Josh Allen has been very lackluster. Chaisson is a bust in my eyes already and does nothing right. Forget a Flash, I haven't even seen a spark from Chaisson. Edge Rusher or Interior pass rusher is in dire need. Fix the Pass rush and many other issues with this defense goes away. 3. Tight End: Foolish to have it this high? I do not believe so. You look at almost every dominant offense in the NFL and they all have a good tight end or two. In a passing league we need at least one guy on the inside that can stretch the field. A good tight end also helps the offensive line. Cam Robinson is not good but serviceable. If Jay Gruden ran more of a balanced offense this line could work, especially with an upgrade or two at tight end. ![]() We show less advertisements to registered users. QB is 1 and head coach is 1a. If the new GM nails both of those the rest will fall into place pretty easily.
Wrs are good. I would say a good head coach and defensive coach. New scheme.
A good cb or 2. Offensive line could use a right gaurd. Plenty of picks so have at it new gm. Qb yes.
QB - Obvious
LT - Unless Cam comes back on an extremely team friendly deal, which I doubt. 3T - A case could be made for edge player but I think the guys already there would look much better with a decent tackle.
I know most are against this, but i honestly think Minshew is serviceable. Is he a franchise QB? Probably not, but we have alot of big holes. We have multiple picks towards the top of the draft. The only QB i would feel comfortable drafting is Lawerence with our first pick. I'm not big on Fields, Lance, Wilson or Trask. If TL isn't there, i would like to see us address the defensive line with our first pick and possibly cb or Oline with the second pick if we aren't having to reach for them. After that, another oline and cb if we hadn't picked one up yet. This team is pretty bad overall and needs alot of work. We really need to focus on drafting players that are the closest to a sure thing and not reach or pick up "projects".
So in my eyes, focusing on fixing this defense would be my #1 priority, then look to upgrade our oline. I also don't know who the possible free agents are that could be available come the offseason seeing how we have some cap room. So it could possibly change who i would draft. If we can pick up a decent CB, that would go along way. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
We need to spend a high draft pick for a long snapper.
There are 10 kinds of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those who don't.
1. Franchise QB
2. Franchise QB 3. Franchise QB After that everything falls into place because you're not searching for that leader anymore. ![]()

If we had an O line which provides a modicum of protection, Minshew is very serviceable. My biggest fear is if we could land Lawrence or some other promising QB, he would end up like Burrow.

It's the Head Coach. Then it's the QB. Then it's the offense. That's the roadmap for success in Today's NFL.

This exactly and it doesn't help our defense just stands to the side and lets the other team score TDs one after another. Tom Brady in his prime would be struggling to score a TD every single time we got the ball... (12-02-2020, 09:40 AM)Hurricane Wrote:(12-02-2020, 09:36 AM)RicoTx Wrote: 1. So maybe not be such an [BLEEP] next time and just say that. Another area i forgot to add was linebacker. I would like to see an upgrade opposite of Jack.

The problem is that only one of those he really controls, the variables in getting the QB make it more difficult of course. IMO, no one picking QB in the coming draft really wants anyone but Lawrence, it they take any other QB then they are settling for what they can get. If the Jags somehow win another game and end up picking after both Lawrence and Fields are gone then they they are settling for at best the 3rd best QB in the draft and we have to ask if that's the right thing to do. So much a #becausejaguars thing to be god awful and yet not be bad enough. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato

I don't know that Schobert fits that alignment, but I think Quarterman would make a good ILB while Jack, Allen, Chaisson, Q. Williams...we have several guys that look like they can play standing up outside. then there's guys like Correa and Jacobs who might fit as well if you can slide Jack to ILB as well. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato

1.QB
2.3T (if we maintain 43 D) 3.S Now, if Cam walks in FA and Norwell is cut for cap savings, OL becomes a much bigger need. But as much as fans love to bag on our OL the play from our 3T has been so bad it negatively affects the pass rush from the edge. And the play from both safety spots has been meh to bad. There's lots of ways to fiddle with the OL and keep it serviceable without it being a dire priority. Position switches, young guys (Bartch) replacing other guys, free agent stop gaps... There's nothing in the cupboard for a good 3T or in the ways of safeties on our roster, imo. Gotta draft em with premium (first 3 rounds) draft picks or pay good money for free agents available. |
