Jaguars coaching candidates? (merged coaching threads)

I see a lot of what has plagued the Jaguars since inception in this thread: Small time, not ready to run with big boys, have some controversy, the coach or players maybe scum but hey just win, not up to date with how things run outside of rural attitude Jacksonville.

I care less if Urban comes here, brings success for 4-5 years and retires again. THIS IS 21st CENTURY BIG BUSINESS. I care less if they hire him without interviewing whoever...THIS IS 21ST CENTURY BIG BUSINESS. I'm not moving in these circles (and probably few of us are) of the Khans and other NFL professionals, so I don't know the politics...THIS IS 21ST CENTURY BIG BUSINESS.

Some of you seem to be too invested in a comical, above your pay grade, can't enjoy the ride because you think you know more than the ones in that profession, type of way. Just chillax, let them make their decisions first, and react appropriately at the results.

Making a billion dollars selling Truck bumpers certainly puts him "above my pay grade" in a literal sense, but it doesn't mean anything about his ability to run a football team.  There's a chance that I know more about pro football than him.  If he chooses to hire Urban Meyer u der these circumstances, it would indicate that I do know more than him, regardless of how rich he is.
My fellow southpaw Mark Brunell will probably always be my favorite Jaguar.

When I made mention of pay grade I wasn't actually referring to capital.

I'm more referring to...let's say we're all at the bottom...scratch that.

Let's say we're all customers of an industry and have no idea what the CEOs and President's qualify as good for business.

We don't know the intricacies of Urban's situations. We're fans who get whatever information is released to the public. If you work in any type industry you understand a company gives the public very different info.

You may well know more about football than Shad. But all that you know about football is from the customer angle.

I would be enthused that we're actually just making finally what could be considered 'big moves' with the potential of affecting our franchise and fan base in ways we've likely never seen before. Meyer & his hand selected staff, along with a 'generational' College QB in Lawrence could be absolutely dangerous together.

Agreed, its a high risk high reward signing.  We are swinging for the fences imo

I think if we end up with Meyer and Trevor, It would be a totally new beginning for this franchise. I say bring it on.

I'm 100% out if they do this.  I can't root for a person like Urban, and he's going to give us locker room issues all over again before he bails for "health issues."

For me it's years of sucking plus the coaching hire.  It proves they have no [BLEEP] clue what they're doing and it's not worth my time ot money any more.

If this is true, this is gonna be an unmitigated disaster!

For all we know Khan is rolling his eyes at the prospect of hiring Meyer. The people who are perpetuating the rumors are the ones who rely on clicks for a livelihood.

Good Lord, I hope you're right!

Sounds more like we are bunting.

Here's my most wanted listed (most wanted first): Matt Campbell, Brian Daboll >>> Arthur Smith >>> Ryan Day. I previously want Dabo but I've heard enough of his mouth the last week.

I think Caldwell would be a good choice. Lewis not so much.  Daboll seems to be the hottest candidate this cycle.

A new beginning to the same old story.

I think at worst he will be a solid starter.

Because in that scenario, we hired a coach before we hired a GM. The best GM candidates are gonna want to hire their own people. If you tell candidates this is who you have as a head coach, deal with it, your gonna have the top GM candidates turning down the job right and left. It's putting the cart before the horse and it's a stupid and unproductive way of doing things.

If he is, he is. At least we tried. I don't think he will though. At worst, I think he has an Andy Dalton type career. At best, he could be the next Pat Mahomes. I think he falls somewhere in between though.

Didn’t the 49ers hire Shannahan before Lynch?

Is Lynch a good GM? He tried to make Jimmy G. a franchise QB and now they are ready to dump him. They are almost as bad as we are.

Shanahan comes from a coaching family. He came from within the NFL. Meyer has no experience in the NFL at all, has a history of health problems, left Ohio State partly due to a domestic violence cover up from one of his assistant coaches and has a history of quitting jobs. That's a big difference between Shanahan. If you were a top GM prospect would you want to be saddled with Meyer? I certainly wouldn't.
