Congress Shut down......

I read somewhere today that Gab has its own servers. Expect them to gain a lot of membership in the next few days.

I have a feeling the tech giants are going to regret this in the coming months. You can disparage and marginalize 75 million people only for so long.

I feel bad for Parler and Dan Bongino but they had a long time to get their house in order and have had server issues from day 1 even as more people started joining. They will be back but kind of blew their chance at being THE replacement for Twitter.

I wouldn't rule out Elon Musk developing a viable alternative to Google and Apple. Dude has a chip on his shoulder Tim Cook wouldn't take his call and also he isn't a fan of what is happening.

A giant had been woke.

I don't know about any reason to be "scared" but Amazon has been doing tons of shady [BLEEP] for years that should have people pissed off.

Will AWS cut firearm websites hosted on their servers next?

I was ready to quit Amazon when Covid hit and it was literally the only way we were able to get stuff we needed. I love living in a small town but the drawback is you have few options in a good day. During a pandemic scare in a democrat run state? Forget about it.

There are still things we can't get around here and driving an hour to a bigger city to hope another store has it is not an option. My husband has talked about buying directly from anyone we can or, God forbid, ordering from Walmart. But they're not any better than Amazon IMHO. No one has clean hands.

I'm not going to quit using amazon for anything but I agree that need to be broken up. They have their fingers in way too many things. Them using AWS this way is going to undermine their market share. Folks were already paranoid about AWS becoming a platform for Amazon to co-opt and undermine new ideas from the little guys. This really feeds into that narrative. I just which the wheels of justice (on antitrust) turned quicker.

I know quite a few people that sell on amazon. Amazon has a lovely habit of screwing their sellers over. They like to look for the profitable items that are being sold and suddenly start undercutting their own sellers buy selling that product themselves. They will make you submit invoices for where you bought your items and then suddenly you won’t be able to source them anymore. Pretty crappy way to treat people that have made you money.

It won't be Elon. SpaceX depends too heavily on NASA contracts. Besides, Elon adheres to the truism of not mixing politics with business. But I wouldn't be surprised if he helps organize something behind closed doors.

What does NASA have to do with Google and Apple?

Musk has made some comments (in his weird way) about politics and even encouraged Portnoy to run for president.  He certainly has his beliefs. Cook also wouldnt take his call to buy Tesla when they were in the dumps so there is likely some ego there too. The Tesla OS runs on Linux so I'm sure they already have a solid mobile infrastructure to build off of.

Intriguing to think about.

The former director of the CIA said this.

Anyone now seeking national redemption by claiming to no longer support Trump must acknowledge how wrong it was to ignore & enable his corrupt, dishonest, & divisive agenda.

Total denunciation of a despot’s legacy is necessary to eradicate any remaining malignancy.

That seems to be a modus operandi of theirs for quite a while. I remember reading about entrepreneurs losing everything because Amazon undercut them.

Elon Musk is a billionaire cool guy who does cool things. Most people like him. Seeing Amazon crash would be easy to watch for a lot of people because Jeff Bezos is such a shifty looking geek. He would definitely not win a battle of popular opinion.

But dammit, Amazon is so convenient...

Elon does not want to rile politicians who can influence and dictate his ability to secure government (NASA) contracts.

We were explaining blockbuster video to my 8 year old rated and started talking about the good old days of old fashioned retail. I think the country is dying for it to come back and it would make the country a better place.

Amazon is convenient. I’ve got the delivery people at my house so much I’m wondering if I can claim them as a dependent on my taxes! Laughing

He might not need NASA soon. They were dead before Trump came along. I have full confidence Biden will try to crush them again at Chinas request in the space race.

Don't believe that. NASA is alive and well and building big missions far into the future. SpaceX gets over half their funding from government contracts, such as NASA, the NWS, the armed forces, and NSA.

If you're ever interested in getting a perspective on the space industry from a political, business and financial perspective, look at spacenews.com. Some of the best knowledge is in the comments because professional people contribute. There's been some recent political noise, but it's not overriding.

I love the fact that 99% of people whining about big tech are using Apple’s iOS or Google’s Android OS to do it with.

Delicious.

Thus the desire for an alternative. BlackBerry ain't gonna work and Windows Phone, while promising wouldnt be any different in the long run.
