City Council Committee Approves Lot J Funding

Once they announce the hiring of Urban Meyer as the head coach, and we draft Trevor Lawrence ticket sales will be booming. And in year 2 or 3 when we make the playoffs and possibly a Super Bowl ring, would that help ?

Love to see it happen. That will also be the perfect time for the old "build me a new stadium or I'm moving to London/St. Louis" maneuver.

I know people will be shocked to hear this, but Matt Carlucci announced today that he's running for mayor in 2023. As predicted....
Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

People shouldn't be shocked about this.

People also shouldn't be shocked about a city council member having ambitions for running as a mayor as far as "predictions" go. I'd say it's more of a self-fulfilling prophecy.

His posturing with the Lot C vote was definitely a trigger to announce his plans.  He's run before.  He can run as the guy who stared down Shad Khan.  He claims he loves the Jags and wants to keep them here.  We'll see.

I'm with you there, I was absolutely disappointed in hearing this news.

I also believe that Lot J, the Shipyards project, and stadium renovations/lease will get passed one way or another - and perhaps in a different order than we expected.

Ultimately, a lot of political and financial posturing occurred but I think that Khan and the developers might ease up a tad on their end of the bargaining - whether it be having them shift their capital infusion earlier than what was proposed here, creating a joint deal with the multiple projects at hand, or pursuing something else.

Just ready for this city to take the next step in moving forward with positive developments especially with a willing investor and a deal that is reasonable for all parties involved.

What a loud mouth hack Nate Monroe is. Tweeting like a child with the caps lock on when they announced it got shot down.

This is why downtown is, and will always remain a joke and cesspool.

Because some parking areas are considered high demand that means it's a cesspool. Got it.

The National Park Service has rejected the land swap proposal for Metropolitan Park and the Shipyards.

Met Park - dead

???  Maybe I don’t understand the whole situation.  But the National Park service has rejected what exactly on a parking lot and big open field??  They plan on having an epic National Park Lot or something?

Not a huge surprise.  The cleanup costs for the shipyards compared to Metro Park are going to be ridiculous.  The National Park Service wants nothing to do with that.

Lot J will end up being revisited.  I think the stadium upgrades will probably move to the front while they continue to haggle over who will pay for the cleanup at the shipyards.  That's a long term project that's going to require a considerable amount of attention to just get the project started.  Figuring out whether we can do a major stadium renovation to keep it in the good graces of the league will need to be a priority since the lease has an end date.  I don't see the team getting a new stadium considering the investment made already with Daily's Place and the practice facility, so something like what they did in Miami seems to be realistic here.

I don't see a new stadium either..

But I'd love to see an enclosed stadium.. Put a retractable roof on that thing and pump in the AC..

There was a four season hotel plus some residential, office and medical development.

Matt Carlucci is a complete politician.  He's going to brag that he "stood up to billionaires" and is "fighting for the little guy" while actually blowing a big opportunity for the city and putting the Jaguars at risk.  Let's promise not to forget this.  When it comes time, let's donate money (and time if you can) to his opponent.

BTW, did anyone hear Tommy Hazouri interviewed on the 1010xl radio after the vote?  He tried to hide it, but it was obviously all about politics for him.  He took every opportunity to try to take shots at the mayor versus discussing the merits of the vote.  His complaints almost all revolved around "secrecy" but then had to largely admit that he did the same thing as mayor.  It's common practice for mayors not to negotiate deals like this in public.  At one point, Hazouri even started to bring up Donald Trump who had nothing to do with Lot J.  Hazouri is another one who we need to go all out to get out of office whenever he comes up for re-election.
