Dave Caldwell leaves all doors open

Quote:Quote me where I said the Jaguars have to draft a QB this year. Pardon me if I misunderstood your post, but it seems to contradict itself. You seem to say that's what the NFL wants... offense over defense, superhero QBs winning championships. When, in fact, even the superhero QBs aren't winning when they aren't playing good defense and have a potent running game. No one is underrating Wilson, he's a fantastic up and coming player that's probably about to break into "elite" territory if he continues to grow at this pace. However, what you're doing is underrating the importance of everything around Wilson that's allowing him to grow. If there were anything close to how the Ravens won with Dilfer, it would indeed be the Seahawks. The perennial contenders are those who have a strong overall roster, not just a superstar QB. Those with a QB alone simply tease in the playoffs and have a tough time getting rings.

Quote:You're the one who is making yourself look like a fool. He said not 1 thing about Gabbert.I'm not grasping for an argument, I brought up an old argument, Couldn't care less about Gabbert now he just had something to do with the previous argument where Oaklahomie was talking crap about me because I thought Henne>Gabbert and i was right..
Quote:Why would you call security? The man is an ewok. The curse of the ewok? Over thirty NFL teams for a network NFL guy to pick on and Petey boy keeps coming back here. Oh goody! The biggest GM wannabe, the poster boy of Me-Me-Me meme, is inserting himself inside the Jaguars organization. What have we done so wrong to deserve this? Prisco, that's ewok for BOHICA.

Quote:Pardon me if I misunderstood your post, but it seems to contradict itself. Well that explains it, you didn't actually read the discussion. Someone said that the Jaguars should try to build the team into an elite defense and just accept a game manager QB, then pointing to the Seahawks as a team that made this method work. It's a wrong notion for two reasons. The first is that teams with game manager QBs don't win in the playoffs. That's why the Bengals and texans have been so bad in the playoffs. The second is that Russell Wilson isn't a game manager, he's a playmaker. Nothing in my point says the Jaguars have to draft a QB this year. Clear now? Quote:The curse of the ewok? Anyone else think its interesting that Caldwell has his own board separate from the teams?
Quote:Anyone else think its interesting that Caldwell has his own board separate from the teams?I think it benefits the team. The scouts do there thing, Caldwell makes his own and in the end they combine their analysis for a super board. Quote:Well that explains it, you didn't actually read the discussion. On the contrary, the notion is correct. You build a complete team and add the franchise QB when he presents himself. You can't manufacture one out of thin air. You've brought yourself to water, but refusing to drink. The teams who are not complete, yet have that superstar QB are perennial disappointments. Sure, they make the playoffs but come up short. Teams that are more complete are those who charge to the prize. How many rings does Manning have? Fewer than his less talented brother. When was the last time Brady held the trophy? The last time he had a more complete team around him. You appear to see the need for competence at QB, but errantly discount what's needed around him.

That doesn't mean that one has to be taken before the other and actually, that rarely happens (drafting the QB after having a complete team).

I stated if the Jaguars are going to win a championship it will take more than just a game manager. I didn't provide any time frame for getting a good QB, I only stated that a game manager won't win championships. You've inductively reasoned that means I'm claiming the Jaguars must draft a QB this season which is something I never even implied.
Quote:Anyone else think its interesting that Caldwell has his own board separate from the teams? I bet you if you removed the covers there's nothing there. Why would you write your whole draft out on a whiteboard?
Quote:I bet you if you removed the covers there's nothing there. Why would you write your whole draft out on a whiteboard? Wow, that's a good point. If he's not going to show it to anyone, why write it on the whiteboard? Maybe he just did it to see if someone would try to peek at it. Quote:Wow, that's a good point. It's just a list of players ranked in order that's subject to change as evaluations continue. He clearly states in the article that several staffers have seen it - but he doesn't want to influence the opinions of coaches and scouts. If they walk past it everyday that could happen. I don't see anything wrong with keeping a work in progress ranking and I think he's smart to encourage independent thought among his staff. We show less advertisements to registered users. I don't see anything wrong with keeping a work in progress ranking and I think he's smart to encourage independent thought among his staff. It's been suggested that a large part of scouting is verifying what you thought you already knew. Wouldn't surprise me if that's not what this is about. He's got his opinions, and wants to see if his staff's independent work backs or counters what he's come up with. Exception management. Targeted value. That's where extra time spent with guys comes into play, like the senior bowl. When the rounds get late and all the grades are pretty equal, that last bit of information may make the difference and make a player stand out from the crowd (or possibly remove them from consideration.)

I thought Henne played ok at the end of the season. I'm not sure there is an upgrade in FA. He seemed to be using his decent mobility to make first downs and was basically throwing to an injured shorts and a load of nobody's while the middle of the line gave him no pocket or time.

Quote:It's funny how he compares Matt Ryan to Peyton Manning. Other than how they both fall off a cliff in the playoffs Ryan's career is more like Jay Cutler's so far. He was obviously mentioning his previous work. Ryan is a guy that still needs to prove he is a franchise QB. He had one good year with an amazing supporting cast. Once the cast dropped his production was 0.
No pain, no gain.
