Which is the one positive I covered, Gus kept the team playing hard. I expect more than half of the current starting lineups of 2013 will need to be turned over before we are really contenders, though. The whole interior o-line, RB, QB, TE, WR1 all need upgrades on offense and DE, and a few defensive backfield players need to be upgraded on defense. And that's just assuming the guys that showed promise continue to develop, which there isn't any guarantee of.

The team also has one of the best cap situations in the league to help with that rebuilding.  To expect some magical transformation last year after the way they blew up the roster is a little unrealistic.  The fact that the team did lack the kind of talent that would put it in contention, yet the guys who were on the field continued to play extremely hard.  This was one of the youngest rosters in the league with a ton of rookies starting in some critical roles.  Despite dumping some of the veterans, we saw the team progress as the season ended. 

 

With our cap room, acquiring the kind of talent that will have a real and tangible impact on the level of play on the field is going to be doable.  Last year wasn't as much about turning things around as it was about blowing it up and starting over.  This year begins the true process of improving the talent and getting this team on the right track.  You're more than welcome to live in the glass half full world, but it's not just Jag fans who recognize the direction the arrow is pointed in for this franchise.

You could also call it the reality check. The team has a LOT of building left to do. Last season showed us that the guys we have were willing to play hard for Gus, which is a positive, but that's about all it showed. The level of talent on the team is ridiculously low going into the off-season.

It IS pretty painful to look at the roster of this team right now.  Not much talent.  At least we have a HC in place now that can fire up a group of a mediocre (at best) group of guys to get a couple of wins here and there.  If we get lucky and hit on a pretty good QB, we might no longer be the laughing stock of the NFL any longer by 2015.
