I do feel we will see a better record this season. probably in the 7-9 to 8-8 range and if we are being led by a rookie QB then that would be fine with me.

It's great that talking heads aren't spouting exclusively negative things about the Jaguars, but 2013 was essentially a carbon copy of 2012 but without the texans being a good team.

 

Put the texans back at their 2012 performance level and 2013 is another 2-14 season and the Jaguars are figuring out who they want to take #1 overall in the draft.

I'm not prepared to make any predictions just yet.  I want to see the schedule and the draft/free agency haul first.

You could also call it the reality check. The team has a LOT of building left to do. Last season showed us that the guys we have were willing to play hard for Gus, which is a positive, but that's about all it showed. The level of talent on the team is ridiculously low going into the off-season.

There were a few hard fought games that, given a bit more talent and experience , could have gone either way.  Not to mention the seemingly winless fight against officiating crews blowing some BIG calls (i.e. Laroy Reynolds great legal block negating Ace Sanders' return, costing us the game in my opinion) This team was facing alot of adversity and still showed alot of fight.

If teams were not going all free fall on us, the onfield performance would have demonstrated the same thing for our team.  The reality check means we are picking 3rd instead of 1st not much of a big deal.

 

The roster was like the movie Major League.  I thought there was a real possibility we would show no progress and go winless.

Fans deserve better. Thanks for all the good times too many are in the past.

There were a few hard fought games that, given a bit more talent and experience , could have gone either way.  Not to mention the seemingly winless fight against officiating crews blowing some BIG calls (i.e. Laroy Reynolds great legal block negating Ace Sanders' return, costing us the game in my opinion) This team was facing alot of adversity and still showed alot of fight.

 

Which is the one positive I covered, Gus kept the team playing hard. I expect more than half of the current starting lineups of 2013 will need to be turned over before we are really contenders, though. The whole interior o-line, RB, QB, TE, WR1 all need upgrades on offense and DE, and a few defensive backfield players need to be upgraded on defense. And that's just assuming the guys that showed promise continue to develop, which there isn't any guarantee of.

And who all changed head coaches which just goes to show how horrible they were.

 

If the tacks and brownies dont have a turnover fest, we could have easily lost those games as well.

Caldwell knows our roster has a long way to go. He hasn't sugar coated it. We get enough negative around here and I know it is hard to take a compliment Jag fans, but sometimes you have to sit back and say thank you instead of but, but, but...

The team also has one of the best cap situations in the league to help with that rebuilding.  To expect some magical transformation last year after the way they blew up the roster is a little unrealistic.  The fact that the team did lack the kind of talent that would put it in contention, yet the guys who were on the field continued to play extremely hard.  This was one of the youngest rosters in the league with a ton of rookies starting in some critical roles.  Despite dumping some of the veterans, we saw the team progress as the season ended. 

 

With our cap room, acquiring the kind of talent that will have a real and tangible impact on the level of play on the field is going to be doable.  Last year wasn't as much about turning things around as it was about blowing it up and starting over.  This year begins the true process of improving the talent and getting this team on the right track.  You're more than welcome to live in the glass half full world, but it's not just Jag fans who recognize the direction the arrow is pointed in for this franchise.
