Jags and Free Agency

I'm with everyone else, I was hoping we would win the Super Bowl this year, but, apparently we are not.  Okay, slight exaggeration, but you get the point.  I was hoping for the quick turn around, but as of now, probably not.  Who knows?  Maybe they'll surprise us.
Or..... They went after a bunch of dudes and those guys chose other teams which is not a good look.

"Here! Take all this money!"
"Nah. I'm gonna take less to go play for the Jets or Browns"

Guys are motivated by different things. When you are in a losing situation you got to outbid everyone and hope being the highest bidder is enough. Not everyone wants to take the money and run. Not everyone wants to be apart of a rebuilding situation.

Trevor and Hunter Henry started following each other on Instagram, so that is good

Still a lot of talk?  Like Tony Khan saying the trade was a load of crap?

I think he was referring to the one trade rumor where someone claimed the Jaguars were including D.J. Chark as part of the trade for Orlando Brown. Which was far-fetched.

I really don't get Hyde and Dorsett awful. Like keep Cole instead and swing for a top wr. I don't think Hunter Henry would be bad but I don't think hes getting any better and needs to stay healthy.

Today we need

1) Hunter Henry,
2) A starting corner
3) Samuel or Golladay
4) Alex Smith

Would people be happy with that?

Both have experience in our new offense. Dorsett is really, really fast when healthy. Urban wants more speed.

No one would have been happy with that 24 hours ago, but that's probably the best case scenario now, if it's Jackson or Hilton and not fools gold Griffin. That would probably be like a C- FA period grade.

Mostly agree - Not sure how much cap room we have left after overpaying for yesterday's signings (IMHO).  My wish list for today still includes the following:

1. Offensive Lineman - Trent Williams or Riley Reiff (if we sign either one we can pull back the Franchise Tag or let Cam and Taylor compete for RT)
2. Wide Receiver - Golladay, Samuel or Fuller
3. Tight End - Hunter Henry (or Gerald Everette only if we somehow fail to sign Henry and he goes to another team)
4. Cornerback - William Jackson, Shaquill Griffin, Malcolm Butler or Janoris Jenkins

We're getting torn to shreds over how much we overpaid RRH, Jenkins, and Agnew.

As much as we may have overpaid them and the probably useless hurry we had to sign these players their cap numbers aren't killing and won't be killing our team whatsoever. Nor these signings would have prevented them to do other moves. The problem of our FA approach so far lies elsewhere in my opinion. (and it's even more worrying probably)
Let's see what they do today though it's not looking good.

He sure as hell didn't play fast when he had Tom Brady as his QB.  His speed days are long gone.

Any noise on Sidney Jones? I'd love to keep him on.

Yeah not sure how he is coming up with that math everyone else says we spent 30-35 million.

I can remember many years when pundits considered the Jaguars among the winners of free agency - only to watch the Jags fall on their faces when the season starts. Face it, how many high-priced free agents has this team signed that have actually earned their money? I can think of only one--Callais Campbell. Maybe Malik Jackson - but he only had one impact year. Who else? Bouye? One really good year, that's it. You have to go all the way back to Searcy - and even he didn't last as long as we'd hoped.

This team is going to be great because of the guys we drafted or will draft. Trevor Lawrence, Josh Allen, Myles Jack, DJ Chark, Shenault. We have four of the top 50 picks. We're going to get some impact players. I'm not worried.

I would be happy if we got an OLiner instead of Alex Smith. Problem is CB isn't super deep, especially getting good quality on the outside will be tough. We can get another safety. For the O Line there is only really Reiff and Trent W, and there are a few teams that need to address their line (Bengals), so we are competing. I also don't think paying Receivers is a must imo, we had a solid receiving group, but Golladay would be pricey and he isn't a top tier elite WR. Im okay if we choose to fill WR with Mid round Picks, but we need to address the Line and TE, as well as the Secondary.

The revisionist history on our FA is really annoying. We've had a lot of really good FA signings and the only reason yall are trying to downplay their impact is because you're trying to rationalize the disaster that was yesterday's failures. Don't be slaves to your biases like that.

Yeah not sure how he is coming up with that math everyone else says we spent 30-35 million.

Cap hits:

$4m - Jenkins
$2.6m - Agnew
$2m - Hyde
$1.75m - Ford
? - Robertson-Harris
? - Dorsett

So 4 of the 6 come out to $10.35m in cap space. The details on R-H and Doresett aren't out yet, but there's not way they are another $20-$25m

That answers my question. I like this one.

Reiff is still out there, I'd be on the phone with his agent for sure.

If they think that Taylor is any bit salvageable, I'd love Reiff to come in and help him develop (stop laughing, OLM). Between Taylor, Shatley, Richardson, and Bartch I think that gives a good core of depth on the OL where an injury at any position isn't going to be a complete abandonment of hope for progress over the season.

I think if we are going to sign a corner it will be a slot/nickel type guy. Newsome at 25 is a very distinct possibility, and if the team really likes him there, spending a ton on an outside starter is probably not the best move.

Honestly, if Alex retires, I might still hire him as a consultant/advisor for the QB room to work with the position coaches. We have two young QB and his experience would be highly valuable.
