Jags and Free Agency

This is the same team with a few different people running around making decisions. It is going to be what it will be until it stops being #becausejaguars

Honestly, I wasn't thinking we were going to find answers in free agency. We have a first time coach that is a bit of an unknown with no positive results in forever. It is going to take more time than we would like it to take.

Last year was pure stupidity on all the decisions and the way the owner handled it.

There's still time I guess but something looks really wrong. Maybe they are gonna nab Samuel, Trent and Everett. If they do that, it's all good but at this point, Trevor will be behind the 8 ball.

I don't care about Samuel. WR was already our position of strength. We're not even in on the Trent Williams discussions and Everett is just a slightly better than an average TE. Nothing can save this free agency period for us. It's a complete failure.

Im not saying they are, but these moves almost make me think they will sit Lawrence for most of next season and want another high draft pick in 2022

After watching what we're doing, why would Lawrence want to come here?

It's like we're in the Twilight Zone - in this episode, every other team is out there signing good players, starting players, proven players - while our FO is overpaying for career back-ups, all the while thinking that WE'RE the ones that are doing it right.  Either that or it's Scoobey Doo and when the gang catches him at the end, they pull off Urban's mask and it turns out to be Jeff Fisher......

2. Players do not want to come here due to the past drama with players wanting out of Jacksonville or the fact that we have a completely inexperienced head coach or the fact that he was willing to bring in a coach who was perceived to be a racist.

3. Our front office and head coach are completely incompetent.

It has to be one of these options and honest to God, I have no idea which one it is, but something is going on here. If I were Trevor Lawrence, I'd be rethinking whether I wanna come to Jacksonville. This is starting to feeling like the Indianapolis Colts situation where they drafted Andrew Luck and surrounded him with nothing.

Really doubt it is #2. Probably a mix of #1 and #3

I'd bet #2 is a big part of things. Players look at Jax as a wasteland bereft of talent, then they see the new head coach who has never been in the NFL in any capacity tried to hire a confirmed racist and they don't see a turnaround coming.

The jaguars are going to have to do it the hard way, which is drafting and developing, and I don't have faith in their ability to do either with this group.

If the Jags had brought in someone with a proven NFL record like Doug Pederson they might have had a better chance to sign some guys.

We're still exactly where we were in 2015 with Randall Cobb, just some chumps there to help guys get the teams they really want to play for pay them more.

Draft Trey Lance. He's gonna be the best QB in a couple of seasons and 10 plus years after from this draft class.

12 Receptions for 142 yards in 5 years.

What's there not to be excited about in this Undrafted Free Agent that actually played basketball @ Canisius.

I assume they are aware that there is going to be huge fan backlash due to this failure. All the excitement they’d built up has gone (for me at least).

Watch them take Fields instead of Lawrence just to finish things off

Clips of Manhertz blocking some top pass rushers by himself. Good pickup if thinking about Lawrence.

It's obvious they are going with who they believe fits their scheme rather than going for big names. If you listened to Meyer this whole time, it really shouldn't surprise you. He's said multiple times that he believes there is no such thing as a bad player and they would lean heavily on fit and familiarity.

Would I be happy with some big signings? Sure. But there is no reason to freak out over these signings like some of y'all are. How many times do we have to watch teams spend huge on mediocre players that we fool ourselves into thinking they're difference makers just to watch them fail miserably most of the time. Don't bother listing successful examples because they are the exceptions not the rule.

Everyone needs to take a deep breath. This is obviously a very young crowd. You plug holes in free agency and build through the draft. Besides there's still opportunity to sign a big name or two.

Dude we've been here for decades and heard this same old song and dance before. Get in the backseat already Mrs. Meyer...
Your beliefs become your thoughts,
Your thoughts become your words,
Your words become your actions,
Your actions become your habits,
Your habits become your values,
Your values become your destiny.

Not really good players at positions of need.

I love the annual hand-wringing that accompanies these threads because they didn't sign [insert big name here].

I respect the positivity but there are in fact bad players and there are good players. That's how it works.
