Monroe Traded

My initial reaction was satisfaction and still is. Joeckel will slide back to his natural position, we'll have more draft picks, and spend money elsewhere in FA. If we trade down for Clowney then things get even crazier, tank again for Jameis and gather a RG3+ deal? Probably not happening, pretty sure Teddy is our guy

I think Joeckel could be better than Monroe, and our line as a whole can't play any worse

I'm just curious if we're actually going to make some 'moves' in FA

I bet it can. If Bradfield got benched last year for turnstile Whimper and he's back in the starting line up then I truly hope Gabbert starts saying his "Our Father's" and "Hail Mary's".

Looks like we're up to ten picks. Hope more to come.

You can't build a team with drafting a few players (especially hyped ones) and going heavy in FA.

We've been there and done that.

Picks, picks and more picks.

Oh and that dude Cyrus

from Alabama looks awesome.

So after reading through like 10 pages I still cant get a number on the picks were getting?

Any got a link to what the team is receiving.

I would have backed the Joeckel picked if I knew Monroe wasn't in the plans. If we can get ace sanders type players with our mid round picks then good deal.

Guess RT really isn't some new valuable position.

We are the farm league team for the NFL.

Draft them- develop them- then ship them off for camp fodder when they are due a pay day and claim we are planning for the future.

We are turning into the Marlins.

Either that or Caldwell is a Gene Smith clone who thinks he is the smartest guy in the room, where he believes he can find the gold that every other GM misses and build a franchise with late round picks and UDFAs.

WHY DOES THIS TEAM, NO MATTER WHO IS RUNNING IT, ALWAYS DO THE DUMBEST THINGS!?!?!?

so the plan all along was to draft joekyll and let monroe walk, THUS PUTTING US IN THE SAME POSITION AS BEFORE, BUT SAVING A BIT OF MONEY!??!?!

i honestly cant handle this team anymoore.... i really cant.... this fanbase doesnt deserve this, criminals dont deserve this

this team will be moved soon, and frankly, at this point, i dont know how upset ill be being able to justifiably pick a new team

Were the Jaguars some branch of the federal government that just got caught in the shutdown and nobody told me?

I figured this trade might be a possibility, even before the team took Joeckel.

If the initial reports of 3rd day picks are true, initially I didn't think we got enough for him.

But after giving it some thought I realized a few things.

1)  I have never been as high on Monroe as many have been here.  It's quite possible a superior talent evaluating GM like Newsome-to say nothing of other average GMs-didn't believe Monroe was elite-thus no elite draft compensation for him.

2)  We got, at the highest, a 3rd round pick for Stroud.  Stroud was far better at his position than Monroe ever was at his.  Even adjusting for positional importance, a 3rd round pick would be about the highest you could realistically hope to get for Monroe, given that his level of play at his position never approached Stroud's.

3)  As bad as it seems, Monroe was basically the only asset on the roster with any real trade value.  MJD has too much mileage, and his injury last year and poor performance this year (which may or may not be attributable to him) wouldn't get much in return.    Marcedes Lewis will likely get even less. They wouldn't trade guys like Joeckel or Cyprien when they are the first class in this GM's tenure.

Worst to 1st.  Curse Reversed!

The only way you can get joeckel true value and with all the sacks given up and the way this team has been playing, keeping him at this stage would be a waste.....that is, if you can get a 1st for him

Has no one thought of this?   What if we DO re-sign Monroe?   He's a free agent at the end  of the year whether we trade him or not.   So there's nothing to keep us from signing him in free agency.

All we've really traded away is his services for the next 12 games.  At the end  of it, he's a free agent, whether we trade him or not.

No one knows yet dude. All we have to go on is "multiple day three picks." I'm guessing it's something like BAL's 4th and 6th round pick as well as BAL's 2015 5th or something. I can't see them trading away their 4th-6th picks next year. Or maybe it's just two picks and it's their 4th and 5th.

Also, to those compensatory pick guys. At the most Monroe would of got us a 4th rounder, MAYBE. I'm willing to bet we at least got a 4th as one of the picks so the Jags are getting more than they would of if he walked on them after a likely franchise tag year.

Given the way Caldwell didn't just trade back to trade back in the draft when he didn't like the compensation I highly doubt he didn't get more than he would of by Monroe eventually walking.

Monroe is a free agent at the end of the year, whether we trade him or not.   The value of what we have traded away is Monroe for 12 games.  That's it.   So, the Ravens get Monroe for 12 games, we get multiple 3rd day draft picks.

THINK.

We can still sign the guy in free agency at the end of the season if we want to.

That would be the trolliest move in the history of trolly moves.

Quote:Why not:

What a fleece job the Ravens gave Caldwell.

The Brown's just traded Richardson (a RB playing a non premium position, who put up average numbers behind one of the the league' best offensive lines) for a 1st rounder. And we are only able to muster "multiple 3rd day picks" for a top 10 LT playing a premium position.

Lol in Caldwell I trust amirite?

Spin that.

Richardson is locked up for a few more years, where as Monroe can walk next year. That's the difference.

That said I do wish we got more. A 3rd would have been nice

Agreed. Doubt that scenario at the end there but that would be pretty hilarious.

<p class="">The deal sending Eugene Monroe to Baltimore will net the Jaguars two mid-round picks in 2014, get them to 10 picks for that draft.

"Mid-round." Now... usually the term mid-round involves the 3rd round. Technically the only mid round is the 4th, so it could either be a 3rd and 4th, or a 4th and 5th.

Ill be sooo happy if its a 3 and 4. Doubt it. Either way, fine with this.

Quote:So getting rid of one of the handful of players worth actually keeping for some middling picks is an improvement?

With or without Monroe this team this season will likely finish with a record of no better than last season, if not worse. So the aim for this team this season is to develop the young talent, in their best position, and in the Joeckel case that means LT. Giving Joeckel the chance to play LT will potentially help his improvement into the LT this team's management hopes he can become.

The other aim of this season is to maximise the draft picks. Monroe has value, so trading him for picks is a good idea when he could walk at the end of his deal for nothing. Monroe isn't one of those guys that it is worth taking a risk on keeping and hoping he helps this team win. He's a good tackle, but his next deal may not be cap friendly, and his presence holds back Joeckel. So in the end getting picks for a expiring contract is a good move for both teams involved.

For me, I did hope that Monroe and Joeckel would be a long term tackle pairing. But at the same time Monroe's exit was always likely. And joeckel is the ideal replacement.
