McShay says...

#1
(This post was last modified: 04-05-2021, 10:41 AM by The Real Marty.)

Todd McShay has a 2 round mock out, and, in this one, the Jaguars picks are:

1) Trevor Lawrence
25) Teven Jenkins
33) Tutu Atwell
45) Pat Friermuth

He says Jenkins is a RT.  He says although Atwell is only 160, he's very explosive.  And he says Friermuth is way below Pitts, but way above all the other TEs.

I agree with all of those takes, although I think 33 is high for Atwell.

Yeah, I have no idea and would not venture a guess as to the worth of any player in the draft, because I know there are several people posting on this message board who have actually watched tape and done their own evaluation.

Totally agree. Jenkins would represent a HUGE upgrade over Taylor at RT. Atwell may be fast, but he wasn't even the best WR on his own team in 2020. To me, #33 is way too high for him. I see him as a 3rd or even early 4th round selection. There are way better receivers in this loaded draft. I also don't see receiver as being a need at all. With Chark, Shenault, Jones and Johnson, I think we are pretty loaded at the WR position.

Although I'm not the biggest Freiermuth fan, I could live with this pick if we added an OT like Jenkins and nailed the #33 pick. I just would like a more athletic TE. Freiermuth plays very slow, although he does have good hands.

Well, generally I would be satisfied with these first two rounds.

Trevor Lawrence would be a tremendous asset, naturally, but the other picks would go a long way to supporting him.

You'd get a RT to potentially upgrade Taylor to provide Lawrence with better protection.

You'd get the blazing speed and productivity from the slot WR position.

Finally, you'd get the safety blanket over the middle.

I wouldn't say we are "loaded" at WR, though I do think we are in good shape.  Now that description could fit, depending upon Shenault's and Johnson's development.  Although I like Friermuth more than you do, I tend to agree that T should be given positional priority over TE under the circumstances of this draft.

I see a tackle drafted with the second overall pick. Who knows, maybe they surprise everyone and trade up for Darrisaw if he's available from 11-20. They certainly have the ammo. Cam is just a one-year rental. Taylor still has upside, and RTs can be found much easier than LTs.

Freiermuth in the 2nd would make a lot of sense. I think the Cowboys WR we got will become the speed receiver. I'd rather Balke take a flyer on a speedster a little later in the draft than waste a high pick on a 160lb kid.

Point of clarification?

Do you literally mean the second overall pick-that currently belonging to the Jets, or do you mean our second pick (#25 or wherever it may eventually fall)?  I think you meant the latter in the larger context, but your phrasing highlighted obscures your message somewhat.

I can’t see his full mock. Could you share a couple of the players (or WRs) still available at 33?

If they choose Atwell over both Moore’s, that’s terrible.

It’s good that he’s a good blocker, especially when he gets to the 2nd level. Just because he’s in there, you don’t know if it will be a pass play or a run. Should help Robinson as well.

Good point about not tipping off the defense, though there have been any number of TEs not known for their blocking that were key parts of rushing attacks.

Tutu weighed in at 155 (!!!) lbs and was just average athletically. He's probably not in my top 15 or 20 in this awesome WR class.

I would take just about anyone else at 33, but I won't complain about the other 3 picks. I agree that Jenkins is picked to play the right side, but in a pinch he could help play LT.
