I don't care if there are a couple of extra L's this season if it means a Lombardi in a couple of years. If giving him a little too much now breaks him, then he wasn't the dude to begin with. Word for word, I agree. If he folds under pressure—it would be the farce of the century because of how cool and comfortable he’s been in high pressure situations from being highly touted, playing in big games, and being 86-4 as a starting QB since high school. I think he has the mental make up to succeed in the NFL We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Here's a nice long story about TL, what drives him, and what doesn't.

If they work to his strengths and dont try to change the way he does things he should be fine. There is always some sort of tweaking of how a rookie does things, mechanics, staring down receivers etc, but for the most part he's ready. They don't need to dumb things down for him, or lean heavily on the run but they also dont need to have him throw the ball 100 times a game either... Just call the plays that suit the down and distance and let him do his thing...Call a good ratio of run to pass plays and dont be predictable, and dont be scared to go deep at times. The biggest worry is how the OL is going to help him out
Quote:“[My friends and I] loved tripping,” Chase says. “I never had issues with psychedelics. . . . I mean I did a lot of it, but it wasn’t ruining my life. I find the Lawrence family incredibly interesting. I expected the family of the No 1 QB to be just like him and possibly his parents a bit crazy or demanding. Looks like there's none of that. Add to that a brother who isn't the slightest bit interested in sport. On one hand, Trevor is the no doubt #1 pick and I can’t wait for him to be a Jag. On the other hand, a lot of the greats had chips on their shoulder that pushed them. Jordan manufactured his sometimes but he always had something to prove. Brady still has the chip on his shoulder from being a 6th rounder. Regardless, I’m very excited for Trevor and the draft. ESPN has a QB21 segment on right now with Trevor Lawrence and Kirk Herbstreit.

My thing is why would he have a chip on his shoulder. Ever since he first threw a football, people have had all kinds of lofty expectations of him, and he's lived up to them all. Whenever he has joined a football team, he ascended to starter in relatively short time and excelled. How many detractors has he really had? When has he HAD to develop a chip on his shoulder? Why would he? Jordan got cut by his 9th grade (?) basketball coach. Brady was a part time starter at Michigan and wasn't drafted until the 199th pick in the draft. MJD wore 32 because 32 teams passed him in the first round. They had reasons to have chips on their shoulders. To me, TL has had high expectations placed on him, and for the most part, he's lived up to them. That has left him with few detractors, thus little reason to have a chip on his shoulders. Him not having a chip on his shoulder didn't prevent him from being very competitive on the college level. If he contrived it, players would see right through him, and he wouldn't be the leader that most view him as, which would diminish his worth as a QB prospect. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!

It doesn't bother me at all. Some people are just wired different. It doesn't take away from their desire to be great, it just doesn't consume them. They are just naturally happy, balanced people. Lawrence seems like that kind of guy. I wish I was wired like that. I think this kind of attitude will serve him well in the locker room. He seemed to be a very popular leader in the Clemson locker room. I know when I'm around "chilled out" people, I feel more relaxed. |
