Why pick a RB in the first round?  How many times to I need to post this?  

Since 2005, here is a breakdown of the RBs taken in each round who became 1,000 yard rushers: 

RD 1  - 55% 15/27
RD 2  - 29% 11/38
RD 3  - 16% 6/37
RD 4  - 7% 3/45
RD 5  - 7% 3/42
RD 6  - 4% 2/46
RD 7  - 2% 1/51

That's why.

Looking at who had been picked at other positions before #25 and who was picked after #25 I like the pick. I look at it this way, if I had a chart of my top 2-3 at positions I wanted pull the trigger. I do not believe Travis would have been available at #33 (yes is my opinion, you are welcome to yours) We are in a good position to address what we want to tonight having the 1st, 13th and 33rd pick. There is a lot of talent left on the board.

I’m warming up to the selection, but I don’t know how you pass on Jenkins or Moehrig for him. I’m glad they’re at least getting weapons for Lawrence. Keeping Lawrence upright and protected seems like it should be the number one priority, however.

The current state of the Jags maybe shapes their draft principles like below:

1. Never trade up and give up picks, there is no one player that will get you over the hump to the Super Bowl. You need all the picks you have as some will pan out no matter how good your scouts are.
2. Trade down if you can get a really good value in doing so. Stay put if it is not.
3. When selecting players the level of competition they faced on a regular basis in college is very important.
4. If a player had injury problems when in college he will definitely have them at the professional level. Factor that into your decision. The impacts are far greater on average.

So no I would not have moved up for Najee...

I'll just say that I'd much rather pick Etienne than trade up for Najee Harris and leave it at that. If we traded up for anyone, it should've been Darrisaw. Unfortunately I doubt our divisional opponents would let us protect our future QB for cheap. Football Team was probably our best chance at trading up, but the price might've been too high.

To call it a bad pick is just wrong. Fair enough you don’t have to like the pick or agree with it but you cannot call it a bad pick when he hasn’t stepped on the field, most good teams have two good running backs these days,

Yes you can find running backs everywhere in the draft but just because you can doesn’t mean you do, pretty much every team drafts a running back every year between 4th round and UDFA and last time I checked every team doesn’t draft a kamara every year.

The team liked the player and felt he fit what they wanted to do, if they had him ranked top of there bored after watching 100s of hours of film then so be it they do much more work on this thing than us.

Let the kid play and see what happens. What ever your opinion non of us truly know if it was a good pick or not

My 2 pennies worth...

Don't take a RB in the first round, especially if you have a boatload of other needs. Always believed this, and always will. Therefore not a big fan of this pick.

However...

There are definitely positives here too. This draft is "The Trevor Draft", and I'm not sure that there was another player at #25 that would be as much of an immediate help to Trevor as Ettiene is. He brings a very different skillset to Robinson and Hyde, and the way Urban talked about him playing outside and in 2 back sets is a plus. Essentially he can become the safety valve for the rookie QB, offering dynamic playmaking ability on higher percentage throws. We now have one of, if not the best, RB groups in the NFL, behind an o-line that did a very good job in the run game for a putrid team last year. Add super blocking TE Manhertz to that too. Again, having an elite running game is a huge boost to a rookie QBs chances of success.

So overall, while I wouldn't have made that pick, I do think he's a hell of a player who will add an extra dimension to the offense and help TLaw to thrive, so I ain't mad.

This is pretty much where my head is at. I think this was a poor use of resources and would not have been my pick.

At the same time, Etienne will be a good player for us and our ground game this year will be very impressive. I will not let his draft status impact how fun I think he will be to watch.

This pick was very poor value and did not fill a need in my opinion. However, Etienne is a great player and a tremendous talent. He will definitely have an impact, and his presence will make Trevor more comfortable.

I wish we'd gone in a different direction, but I'll wait and see what happens.
