Pre Camp Perceptions
|
Just curious...
but with three weeks remaining until training camp, some two months plus removed from the draft, have any of your thoughts and perceptions changed? Have your views on Meyer, Baalke, or certain players softened or soured? Are any of you more or less optimistic going into this year? Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!

I'm optimistic and can't wait for camp so we can get out of the Dead Zone.

Not really.
When it comes to Meyer he's now done one half of what I expected: break rules. I hope he'll be able to do the other thing I expect: win games. Lawrence looks like he is what was advertised. Obviously we don't really know from rookie camp and OTA but at least there are no red flags. He also signed without any apparent hesitation.
Not really.. It's still a toss up what this team is going to look like. Too many question marks to be enthusiastic about the direction, but you have to really wait and see. Armchair GM's have been bashing each other over the head for the last couple of months because of the moves this team has made, but you really can't do anything but wait and see. There's a reason why these people aren't coaching in the NFL and are just expressing opinions on a message board.. Let the professionals handle it and wait for the results..
Cautiously optimistic.
Have legit concerns about Meyer based on 3 for 4 decisions I'm not really aligned with, but I'm trying to just hope he proves to be smarter than he appears in those instances. I'm optimistic about the offense and hopeful Cullen and the new player acquisitions are enough to fix the defense. The only thing that has changed for me has been slightly less confidence in Meyer than I had initially. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
I like the coordinator hires and both Bevell and Cullen give me good feelings about what they want to do. I also like the skill positions outside of TE, I think we have really good players at RB and Wide Out even though I think ETN wasn't the right fit in the draft. He and Robinson should be good but I hope we find a better 3rd guy than Hyde.

I am quite optimistic. Of course, I will also stipulate, I was optimistic this time last year.
But so far, according to numerous reports, from players and from reporters, TL is what we were hoping he would be. And the players seem to be pretty enthusiastic about the new head coach, as evidenced by the 100% attendance at the voluntary OTAs. I also think we made intelligent moves in the draft and free agency. The arrow is pointing upward. For the first time in a few years, I have bought season tickets. I think 6 or 7 wins should be the floor for this team.
I'm optimistic about the long term but I definitely think there's going to be a learning curve along the way.

I can't wait for preseason to begin, because I certainly want to be proven wrong that we made a bad hire. I was very against Etienne pick, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't want to see how they are going to use him on the field. I would categorize myself as interested, but not invested. Mostly optimistic. I have concerns about both lines but I think the skill position players may hide some deficiencies on the OL. Also have high hopes for Little.
So we need to keep Lawrence upright and we need to figure a way to get a consistent pass rush. Sounds like they want to do that with an attack style defense which may work...initially anyway.
I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.

However I liked all the rest of the picks. Meyer should be like Cowher - letting his coordinators do their jobs.

It is hard for me to be optimistic, and easy to be sour on anything the Jaguars do. Let's face it they were 1-15 last year. Heck look at the last decade. I do HOPE the new direction and people will be an improvement as I pull for them every year. Hope however is not a plan and has let me down before. What we have is a rookie coach and a very young team. Many of the players we are HOPE are going to be game changers have never played a NFL game. Now the newbee coach has assembled what appears to be a very good staff. We have drafted what is touted to be game changing type players, but are they? Like seeing presents under a Christmas tree we all will just have to wait and see. Cautious is what I am to be honest.
A new broom always sweeps clean.
Slightly more optimistic. I thought recent or lingering injuries for Cisco, Little, and Moses might limit their play or redshirt them for a year. However, they appear ready to play. Shenault coming into camp fully healthy this year is a plus.
I don't know if my outlook has changed any from the draft.
I guess my views could be categorized as short and long term. Short term, I expect the team to be faster, more athletic, more exciting offensively and better overall from 1-15, but not a playoff team this year. Longer term, I am cautiously optimistic. With TL and faster, more athletic team should give us more of a chance to win, but we've got to draft well. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!

As Jags fans we should know better than to get excited. This time seems much more substantial, but there are also many uncertainties to balance out the good feels. History tells me to wait and see, expect disappointment. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
My Precamp prediction is the Jags will be a totally different team, and their success will largely be dependent upon the defensive line coming together. I could see it being a much different level of performance weeks 13-17 then week 1-4.
God forbid the Jags go down on heir opening offensive drive at the 5+ yard line and line up Timmy at FB, because we will score and Twitter and this website may blow up to insane levels. (Obviously I’d love this too, despite hating the idea for years, for Tebow.) I say we will win 6-7 games and be exciting. I also submit that the next person in the Ring of Honor is Bullseye. He’s the best poster, the GOAT, and it ain’t close. FBT years ago was right there…..and he deserves a ton of credit too, but Bullseye is the Icon. If you disagree, please don’t hurt my feelings, and make me go to the Modis after meeting the guy by the hotdog cart. I hope the World’s Greatest approves, and don’t care at all if The Mad Dog does.
I cant wait for preseason to see the new look. The time is getting near yet so far away.
