Baalke deserves more credit than he has gotten.

With that said, he has traded away some dead weight that may end up being huge gains down the road. Arnold outside of his bad game yesterday gave us more production in a few games than CJ Henderson has in about 18. He did help build a Superbowl roster so there is that. So because he was able to get rid of some dead weight for low draft picks that have a miniscule chance of becoming quality starters, he deserves extra credit?!? Considering we are a 1-5 team with effectively a rookie class of one in terms of quality contribution, whatever credit Baalke deserves for those trades is more than offset by draft misses-understanding that it's possible the players in this rookie class may yet develop into quality players. It would be more persuasive to give him credit for our free agent class (Griffin, Jenkins, Agnew). Still, he has a long way to go before people will legitimately laud him for his GM work here. From 2010-2016, I don't see a single quality receiver he brought in to the 49ers, though he did draft a few quality players. https://www.drafthistory.com/index.php/teams/49ers Worst to 1st. I think jones has been a good pick up. I think free agency is important to consider for more receiver talent

Right now, I can give credit for drafting Trevor Lawrence (a no brainer) and the free agency class. Otherwise? Pfft! Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!

Being aggressive when getting a true #1 for your young QB is extremely important. Cards got Kyler Hopkins. Bills got Allen Diggs. Browns got Baker OBJ (although it didn't work out, they were aggressive) Be aggressive and find a way to get Trevor a true #1. We show less advertisements to registered users. That's kinda like giving Ryan Grigson credit for drafting Andrew Luck (no brainer), even though he basically messed up everything else he ever did for the Colts. It's actually a good comparison for Baalke.
Drafting ETN last year when we already had Robinson is like drafting a quarterback who is #10 best prospect next year when we already have TLaw. We had much more critical needs than another running back and there were excellent players still available.

You should of watched him at Clemson and you would know what type of back he is He won't, it's a wasted pick. Chances are he falls to the 2nd and we could draft him there. Our draft in general was kinda suspect outside of pick 1, which just about anybody could've made that Lawrence pick. Time will tell, I hope I'm wrong on every last pick. I just don't see it yet. They drafted ETN because they wanted Trevor to have a player he was comfortable with on the team. It was the lazy easy thing to do compared to working this offseason. We had TBro jerseys to sell and a fake QB competition to attend to that the coach was unaware of with this team.

Jaguarmvp's last 3 threads started: Baalke deserves more credit, Wingard is good according to PFF, more love for PFF as it reinforces my narrow views like main stream news.
Stop posting, please.
This thread was not made to give Baalke endless praise and pretend he did everything right. It was made to give him credit for trading dead weight that he got a lot of flack for. It hasn't been all bad.

Just to play devils advocate for Baalke:
1. Many people hated the fact that the Jaguars drafted MJD because we had Fred Taylor. That worked out. 2. Many people are all for the best available player approach. ETN may have not been on your BAP list but Urban knows college players better than you or I. You can't grade ETN as just a usual RB because it was clear he was going to be a much broader part of this offense before the injury. Viska has taken on his role but no disrespect to VIska, ETN is a much more explosive player. I could easily see him having a monster year for us in the short/intermediate routes in the passing game. ![]()
The blind assumption that "Urban knows" anything better than anyone is never going to fly with me.
He has made error after error and blunder after blunder since landing in Jax. He and Baalke both have a steep uphill battle to prove to me they know jack [BLEEP] about how best to improve this roster and implement the talent efficiently. It’s a little early for praise. However, I don’t think the etiene pick is the reason why. It’s the fact we are still a 1-5 team. Etiene may be an all pro in the future for all we know. It’s bad luck he got injured. However, as others have pointed out, lots of deficiencies were not addressed. This defense for one is completely devoid of talent. TE is still an issue. We went into the season with an injured kicker. WR is in area where we had bad luck with Chark’s injury.

On one of the worst rosters in the league his draft picks (aside from the no brainer) either aren't good enough to crack the lineup, or they're starting and they're bad. We're talking about five picks in the top 65, and only one of them started against the dolphins, and that's Trevor. He took a [BLEEP] running back in the first [BLEEP] round. The guy has worked hard to earn the distrust of his abilities, it's hard to do this bad of a job. (10-20-2021, 08:33 PM)jaguarmvp Wrote: Just to play devils advocate for Baalke: 1. Fred was 7 or 8 years into his career when we darfted MJD, that was absolutely a future-minded pick. I dunno how many hated that pick (that board doesn't exist any more and my memory ain't THAT good). Not the best analogy here. 2. I'd assert that Agnew is acting in the role we'll see Etienne play once he's recovered. I want to say last year Shenault was seeing snaps from the backfield, ends around and things like that, but this year they're using him a lot more as a traditional receiver, especially after Chark got hurt. |
