Impresssions From The Titans Game

#1

Egads we suck!  Not too much else to say.

1.  This was the worst game performed by the OL all year, and may have been the worst OL performance in several years.  At least vs. Seattle, the team was able to run the ball some.  The team wasn't able to do anything today.  The first play of the game, Jawaan Taylor got beat for a sack.  Everyone on the OL except Shatley got punked in pass protection.  Norwell had his worst game as a Jaguars, acccounting for what, three holding penalties and two sacks? Shaking my head in dismay.

2.    I am done with Shenault.

3.  We got whipped at LOS, but it sure seemed like Robinson's benching continued today aside from that.

4.  If there was any bright spot in a game like this, the defense played relatively well.  There were times they got good pressure on Tannehill.  Wilson had a very good hit on him early on.  But the team as a whole seemed to lack any fire.

5.  Another big drop by O Shaugnessy on the flea flicker, which triggered another bad sequence.

6.  Nothing to say about special teams.

7.  Rookie Watch

     a.  Trevor Lawrence-easily played his worst game of his career today.  The first INT was not his fault because Shenault let the ball through his hands.  The other three seemed like TL desperation/frustration/exasperation.  He was harassed all game.

     b.  Travis Etienne-DNP

     c.  Tyson Campbell-I saw him allow a short out to the right side of the defense, but did not stick out otherwise, which is good for him considering his play early in the season.

     d.  Walker Little-DNP.  Needs to play.  We need to see what he can do these last four games.  As bad as Jawaan Taylor has played this year, if they are still afraid to play Little at this point, it speaks volumes.

     e.  Andre Cisco-I never saw him today.  WTH?!?

     f.  Jay Tufele-I never saw him.

     g.  Jordan Smith-Has not been active all year.  Another wasted pick.

     h.  Luke farrell-DNP-or if he did I did not see him.  Considering O Shaughnessey's drops, I wouldn't mind seeing more of him.

8.  Bottom line-I have never felt more sedated and deflated watching a football game involving a favorite team of mine. This team has sucked the enjoyment out of football for me, and I suspect many other Jaguars fans share this sentiment.  Meyer and Baalke have to go!!!

3rd worst loss in team history behind the 41-0 drubbing by Seattle and the 21-0 home loss on Christmas Eve to the Texans

It's hard to develop a rookie quarterback on an offense this bad.

We need Offensive Line, badly. The lack of Receivers, for the time being I can live without.

My main takeaway is this: From an identity standpoint, & overall approach to roster construction, this team has been chasing the formula of 2017 when they SHOULD be chasing the formula of 2007!!!!! That team lacked playmakers at WR, had a consistent TE threat in Lewis, and a 2 headed rushing attack behind a road grading Offensive line with a great interior and just above average play at the tackle spots from Barnes & Pashos. On Defense they had great CB play in Mathis, solid Safety play, a deep and consistent LB core and a DLine that could stuff the run but was a little lean on pure pass rush.

On This team has a lot of similar pieces to the 2007 team. Robinson & Etienne can be that 2 headed rushing attack. Dan Arnold is a consistent Receiving threat (with better hands but less blocking) like a prime Marcedes Lewis was. Cam Robinson is like a very rich man's Khalif Barnes. On Defense Shaq Griffin can fill the Rashean Mathis role but not quite on 'shean's level, Tyson Campbell seems to be growing into a Brian Williams type player at the other Corner spot, and Josh Allen is the edge threat that the 2007 team lacked, I still think our DT's can be on the level of the 2007 squads but our LB corps overall is rather weak and is the main problem with the Defense.

In short, we should try and build a team in the mold of the 2007 Jags, and throw all our resources into getting Offensive Line, & LInebackers. Wide Receiver and Pass Rusher are still needs but I think this team won't be able to be effective until there is a massive influx of talent in those 2 areas.
Championship Formula:

1) Draft Trevor Lawrence!
2) Play good physical Defense!
3) Keep 91% of the roster healthy!
4) ???
5) Blank #2
6) CHAMPIONSHIP!!!

Great take as always Bullseye but you forgot to mention Norwell getting pushed backwards into Hyde on that fourth down run.

Along the o-line issue. Warhop has gotta go.

I think Baalke and Bevell have to go as well

Giving up on Shenault? Mebbe not quite yet. Make him RB3 and see what works out. Other than that, keep Jones and Treadwell and replace the rest of the WR group, but move Agnew back to returner.

For next year's draft the first four picks need to be offense and I hate drafting for need over BAP

That's what I think of today's game.

Agree with you as always Bullseye. Also agree with your post on another thread that its hard to evaluate Lawrence with this O as it is. Too much is broken and they are just trying anything in the hope it works rather than a scheme and creating mismatches and playing to strengths.

Lawrence has struggled but this was the argument last year with Minshew. A QB cant overcome everything. O line were just awful today, i have no idea how 3 guys from a 4 man rush get through every time.

We have the Texans and Jets coming up. Two games you would expect us to win but will probably lose both playing as we are. And those will be the unforgivable L's.

On number 4, Cooke is also a bright spot. He might be the best punter in the league. He does get a lot of in game reps

The horrific thing about today is up until the fourth quarter Trevor was actually playing very well, but everyone around him was absolutely horrible. In the fourth quarter it looked to me like Trevor was rushed and desperate and just tried to make things happen that he's not ready to make happen, yet, and with a team around him that can't allow him to make things happen. With a league average amount of talent and coaching around him I think he'd have won today.

Khan needs to clean house, I don't care if it's to put Tony in charge of personnel, or what, but change has to happen. You can't have a guy like Urban in charge, or Trevor will become some team's Brees in five years.

Exactly, Marty.

I will give you a third on this. There is no solution for this franchise. Will they make the tough decisions in the off season. 9 positions on offense are needed in a limited draft. Cap space won't help when you can't get anyone to come here.

Khan thinks this is a business. Corporate types fall for thought leaders way too often. 7 habits for this, 3 ways to make your team do that. Urbz spoke to the thought leader and got rewarded.

Only a football path will take this franchise forward and I just don't see it happening. I have never felt this defeated by this team.

Right. Let’s trade him so he can win 5 Super Bowls in his career with a REAL football team! It worked with Fournette, right?

The punter is the best player on the team.
Respect the game.  Play with a sense of urgency.

1.)  Take care of the ball.  Win the turnover battle.

2.)  It's all about 3rd down.  Win on 3rd down to win the game.

3.) Playmakers make plays.  The only reason that you put your uniform on is to make plays. In order to EARN your paycheck, you must make plays.

I think the 1995 Jaguars expansion team was better than this 2021 team.

You mean the team with a plan to win at home and compete in the division?

The 1995 team didn't have a coach with college championships and knows what a winning culture looks like. Urbz should get some coach of the year votes.

No question about it.

Brunell, Boselli, Jimmy Smith all in their primes.  James Stewart, Jeff Lageman too.

A couple takes.

1. Local news said it best. "Another Sunday, another embarrassment for the Jags"
2. We have a defense and defensive coordinator.
3. Oh the offensive side of the ball we lose the line of scrimmage battle when it counts every week.
4. Just an insight for our head coach. Whether you like it or not this is your team and you are a loser if they are.
A new broom always sweeps clean.
