Monroe Traded

Quote:The clock was ticking the moment Joekel was drafted.

At some point, sooner or later, he was destined to be our LT.

This is something they had likely been working on ever since the card was at the podium.

lol.....so they've been working on it all this time and a 4th + a 5th is the culmination???

(in that case) Fire them all. :pinch:

Quote:I just think he should have netted more than he did. I know the contract & recent play are factors, but so is premium position as well as young age. I've seen & gave examples of other players (in past deals of recent NFL history) that were in a similar contract situation and older/ not as good that netted more in return...

I think a 4th + a 5th rounder is chump change to pay for Monroe.

I think Newsome simply took the rookie GM to school.

AT the very least, a 3rd + a 4th is the minimum he should have warranted. / or 2nd + a 5th.....
Maybe.

But there are facts that lead to a different conclusion, that likely contributed to the results we see now.

Worst to 1st.  Curse Reversed!

Quote:I don't think so. I look at the Seahawks as a model. Their right tackle (Brent Giacomini) was a late round pick signed off the Packers practice squad. You can find guys to plug in that spot.

Very true.

Based off the current Power Rankings we're looking at:

Round 1 Pick 1

Round 2 Pick 1

Round 3 Pick 1

Round 4 Pick 1

Round 4 Pick 19

Round 5 Pick 1

Round 5 Pick 19

Round 5 Pick 23

Round 6 Pick 1

Round 7 Pick 1

Right now.

Did not expect to hear anyone call Eugene Monroe soft, but it happened. He just wasn't mean & physical enough for zone scheme

The way this sounds is Caldwill might trade back a few spots, stack up on picks and take Jake Matthews at 4 or so.  Then trade back into to 1st or take a QB in the 2nd.

Are you that dim or do you have to work hard at it?

Quote:What if... we get RG3 deal for Teddy then...get nice deal for Clowney...then take Matthews...then bolster other spots...then let Gabbert tank for Jameis? Probably not gonna happen

They wouldn't tank 2 years in a row. The fan support wouldn't be there to withstand it.

Just take Bridgewater.

Maybe Pasztor is that guy. From what I remember seeing him in the preseason/camp, he's got a little mean streak.

How in the world did you get all that from the Eugene trade? You really think we wouldn't take Teddy if we had the #1 pick?

I wish I could go back to a point in time where I had read little enough from Krayz to be shocked by things like that.

We have 7 day three picks. Stock up on scheme fit guys who might fall (DEs with good speed who will be too small for other teams, big corners who may not have great range, fast LBs with good coverage skills but less than ideal size etc) . We could find some starters.

Not a chance.

Not sure why we'd trade down and pick an O-lineman.  I think we'll make some pickups in Free Agency on the O-line, and maybe in the draft as well.  This may have been a bid to make sure we can take a Center in the 4th or so, and then also a second QB.

I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

I'm confused. Is this a post from Mark Long and an opinion from flgators or is it all from Long?

And the conclusion doesn't seem particularly logical. Pure speculation.

Depends on what we can get on a trade back.  Im not sold he is the next coming of Peyton Manning like most.  Im also not sold that he will be the best QB out of this class when its all said and done.  Do I think he will be good?  Yes  Would I be mad if we drafted him? No

At least they should be high fourth and fifth round picks...

...It's not like we traded with the superbowl champs or anything
