No Leftwich. We need a proven HC, not an experiment.

I looked at this last year when we had an open coaching position.  Taking a former head coach is no safer than going with the so-called hot coordinator.  Both strategies work roughly equal.  Sometimes a retread head coach works and sometimes it doesn't.  Sometimes the hot coordinator works and sometimes it doesn't.  It makes sense if you think about it.  If one approach always worked, teams would never do the other.

The only strategy that rarely seems to work is the college coach with no NFL experience.  Guess what approach we took last year?

Someone earlier said Khan's getting wiser on this stuff. I couldn't disagree more.  Both of the last debacles have because Khan has bought into a "story".  Story 1 - Bring Tom Coughlin "back home" and give him ultimate authority.  Hire a coach willing to answer to Coughlin (Marrone). Story 2 - Bring one of the best College Coaches of all time "back home" to Florida and hand him ultimate athority.

In both cases Khan was so enamored by the story, that he disregarded all the Red Flags. 

This years "story" is "bring Byron Leftwich home".  Here's the red flags on him:  Has he been in demand?  No. He's only been hired by one guy in his entire coaching career.  Bruce Arians.  In Arizona, in 2018 he was Qb coach and then OC and was given their Top 10 1st rounder Josh Rosen to develop. At the end of 1 year, the new regime had enough of Rosen and Leftwich and one was released and the other fired.

Arians hires him again at Tampa for 2019. Again he is OC and this time given a #1 overall pick to work with with (Winston), Again after one season with Leftwich, the Bucs let Winston go.  Turnovers led Winston to be ranked #27 among QBs.

But then the best QB of all time shows up in 2020 and they win the SuperBowl.  Teams were so impressed by Leftwich that not one single team requested to interview him.  But now that there's; an opening in Jax, the media want to slot him there  Not for me.

Pederson makes the most sense. But man o man the amount of research I would be doing to find out what went wrong in Philly..........

If Pearson passes the test, I get him Dobbs the Asst GM from Indy.

If you don't feel good about Peterson, I like the idea of Nate Hackett.  Has been hired by 3 different coaches (Gruden Marrone, and LeFluer).  Since you have a first time coach hire Jim Caldwell in a Coughlin-like capacity but without the power.  Give your first year coach a wise mentor to lean on. Dobbs as GM for him also.

I can only hope Kahn is not "sold" a QB by the press. Like I said Brady is the train engine, Byron is the caboose. Someone has to have Tom's tablet all ready for him when he leaves the field.  I still remember the sign in the stands that said Hey Byron you Leftwitch out your 6 million dollars.

I don't disagree, I would prefer Pederson but if Khan wants and up and coming guy I would prefer Leftwich.

I've seen no less than a dozen rumors about who we are interested in HC. I haven't heard a peep about a GM search. Surely this doens't mean we are going HC centric again right?

Regardless of who we get for HC I hope it is done with the proper process of hiring a GM first and then letting them hire the HC with imput from Shad and Trevor.

Why would who we are hiring at GM be discussed out in the world when we haven't fired Baalke yet?

I think we're focusing on the wrong thing. There are a lot of qualified potential head coaches out there, and whoever it is will do a good job, if they have the players.

I came home from the game yesterday, and turned on Red Zone, and watched a couple of dozen teams successfully execute plays the Jaguars are not capable of executing. Receivers getting open, passes thrown with great accuracy, etc etc etc. It should be apparent to Shad Khan that our number one problem is lack of talent. So perhaps the silver lining from yesterday is that Khan can see that the problem with this team goes beyond the head coach, and that we need a new GM. When you line up on offense with Tavon Austin, Jaydon Mickens and LaQuon Treadwell at WR, at Ogunbowale as RB, and O'Shaughnessy at TE, those are not starting quality players. And then you watch Red Zone, and you see former Jaguar players all over the league making plays, and it's stunning. Darrell Bevel is an experienced offensive coordinator who has had success with other teams. But this offense doesn't look like an NFL offense at all. It's the talent level that is the main problem.

As bad as Urban Meyer was, Trent Baalke has been just as bad. All those draft picks, all that cap space, so we were supposed to have this major infusion of talent this year, and it looks like we went backward talent-wise.

So Leftwich, McDaniels, Pederson, Caldwell, who cares? If we don't get a much better GM, whoever it is will be fired in 2 or 3 years, and we'll be right back where we are.

Khan said he's waiting until 2022 to think about hiring the new head coach, which to me whispers "Don't worry, Trent Baalke is gone too." But part of me worries that won't be the case. Baalke needs to go, though. He got the job because of Urban Meyer, and now should be shown the door now that Meyer is gone.

What he needs to do is start thinking which football consulting firm he wants to hire to help him in his search.

The speculation game gets old. Every year it's the same thing. Will Khan hire/fire so and so? Who do we want? We already know we're getting a new HC, but will Khan do the right thing for once and entirely clean house for a fresh start by jettisoning all the baggage? I don't know. I'm tired of speculating and wishing. 

All I can say is if Khan half [BLEEP] this again, a good part of this fanbase will give up on the team. We are now going into decades of bad management and bad teams. This isn't the same fanbase of even 10 or 15 years ago. We're no longer the wide-eyed and scrappy group blindly supporting our up-and-coming team. We can now officially be categorized as chronically battered and abused. Just think, we're beyond Jets and Browns territory because of the all the league records we hold for worst performances. We've hit our stops and another weak attempt by ownership to remedy this ingrained culture at the stadium with another desultory effort won't be forgiven. 

Now is the last big chance to really effect long-term positive change. And may I remind, he's not getting any younger. Don't [BLEEP] it up, Khan.
