It better be another country stepping up to the plate because they are running the show here.

Just curious... was that adjusted for inflation?

I think it's actual estimated spending, but there hasn't been close to 2000% inflation since then. The USA is just wasting tons of money on military contractor pork barrel to keep certain welfare states afloat.

Speaking of government waste, Harry Reid...

Nope. Nope. I'm better than that.

Yes, there has been over 2,000% inflation since then.

2,707%, to be precise.

Okay. Interesting to see that most of the inflation appears to have happened during the WW1 timeframe.

Also 2700% inflation still means defense spending was about 1.3% of what it currently is.

You are correct.  Accounting for inflation, the 1913 military spend is equivalent to $10.2 billion in 2014 dollars and nearly $12 billion today.  So military spending has increased 6200%

You're not going to see me pretending there isn't massive waste in the military. I was just curious how much it was by today's standards. I do think we should be spending a lot on our military.... even more than what we did, but there is obviously bloat and people skimming from the taxpayer in our current system. It also doesn't change the point of the original post. We are taxed too much because there are too many people with their hands in the cookie jar.

Spend wisely on the Military, but keep up with China and Russia. At this point, we are not doing either.

Which is really a pointless stat, since we had hardly any military at all in 1914.

And yet the country survived.

Canada still spends less than 3% of what the United States spends on military. No discussion of governmental waste should occur without first talking about military spending, and really that's the only thing that's currently worth talking about on that subject if you're not getting to be partisan about it.
