I can't speak withobjectivity on this matter because before the Jaguars, I was a Dallas fan. My natural inclination is to hate that Washington team.

That said...Washington Football Team has a weird sort of distinctive quality that I liked.

Growing up, I never knew their old nickname was considered racist, but not being native American, I may not have been aware of the nature of that name.

Butin light of the slur it represents, the name should have been changed.

Worst to 1st.  Curse Reversed!

I always thought the redskins name was problematic and old fashioned.
Commanders seems like a good choice. I didn't care for any of the Red ___ suggestions because all of them remind you of the old name.

Anyone taken a look at the jerseys? I like the burgundy one and the black one, but the patterns on the white one are just odd. The white looks like it belongs to a different team.
My fellow southpaw Mark Brunell will probably always be my favorite Jaguar.

I only like the white one (needs burgundy pants though). Black is bland as hell. The burgundy is meh, I hate that the "gold" is more yellow than gold. Love the matte helmet but the logo could be better.

Will always be the Redskins

Like Pat McAfee there's no way they aren't going to be call the Washington Commies, the red and yellow color scheme doesn't help and they should have seen it coming.

I will keep calling them the redskins. Sorry the redskins were my first favorite team and I think this name change is stupid. I'm all for sensitivity but this is too much for even me and I consider myself super ultra forward thinking most of the time. I still have Redskins stuff. As a kid at 13, I would play basket ball with my results hat all day long.

Commanders has a real USFL ring to it.

It's definitely along the lines of the Oakland Invaders.  Maybe the 'Commanders' will attempt to lure Fred Besana out of retirement (sigh).

I'm noticing a trend: When the PC police call for an Indian (ahem, native American) name change, the resultant is super generic, like Guardians or Commanders. So I suppose the Atlanta Braves will be called the Battlers and the Chiefs will become the Leaders. The unimaginative HR goons behind this ruin everything. I hope the Chiefs become "the Tobies."

Characterizing the Guardians rebrand as "super generic" tells me you know absolutely nothing about the reasons behind the choice. I grew up in Cleveland and Chief Wahoo will always have a special place in my heart, even if it does offend others. That said, I understand completely that just because I am ambivalent toward a word, image, or tradition (gawd I hate tomahawk chops, braves fans) doesn't mean that I should fault the team for not wanting to alienate other potential fans or groups that might have a more personal stake in the matter. I am much happier that they went with something that is both historic and iconic than something generic like "Rockers".

Commanders is lame, yes. Daniel Snyder is a buffoon, yes. Their former team name was significantly more offensive than the Guardians' former name was. There were probably other names up for consideration. Why they chose this over some other names, I don't know. I'm just glad they didn't go with the ethereal concepts that a lot of leagues have today like "Sky" or "Spirit" or "Fury". WFT was ok, but the NFL is not a collective of soccer clubs.

I was hearing the Admirals before, that would have been WAYYYYYY better!!!! the Commanders has such an awful ring to it and so fregin' awkward to say with Washingston... just doesn't 'flow' properly.

I heard part of the flack they've taken on the name is that Commanders is a military rank, but only in Naval realms. I suspect Admirals would have drawn the same criticism.

plus, whenever they were having a bad season, everyone would call them the rear Admirals harf harf

Hogs would have been a much better name than commanders but commanders isn't a bad name.

I still use the Redskins, never is nor will it ever be bad for the reasons given... lol. If I get to trigger a [BLEEP] hat wearing cave dweller, even better.
