San Fran School Board Members Who Tried to Rename Schools Ousted in Landslide Recall

All is not lost, folks.  San Francisco has recalled 3 school board members who were behind the effort to rename 44 different schools.

Link

"The recall was a victory for parents who were angered that the district spent time deciding whether to rename a third of its schools last year instead of focusing on reopening them. It also appeared to be a demonstration of Asian American electoral power, a galvanizing moment for Chinese voters in particular who turned out in unusually large numbers for the election."

"The district captured national headlines last year for its botched and in some cases historically inaccurate effort to rename 44 public schools.

"The targeted schools carry the names of a range of historical figures including Abraham Lincoln and the three other presidents chiseled into Mount Rushmore; Spanish conquerors such as Vasco Núñez de Balboa; John Muir, the naturalist and author; and Paul Revere, the Revolutionary War figure."

The Chinese-American community was also incensed that the board had done away with merit-based admission to elite high schools, which was based on grades and test scores, and instituted a lottery system in its place.

This is a mere ripple. The leftist idiocy in San Francisco runs deep and strong. As a matter of fact, don't be surprised if this recall is portrayed as some form of "ism" in the near future.

I think the American public is becoming more and more aware of the damage being done by the liberal elites. They are finally openning their eyes to see it clearly and are taking steps to put them in their proper place, the dust bin of history!

The voters, even in liberal cities and states, are beginning to rebel at progressive extremism.

There is some truth to what you say.   The New York Times article on the recall, which is the one I linked and quoted above, portrays this as a rebellion against progressive extremism, while CNN's article on the recall portrays it as a Republican plot to take over the country.  The difference in the two articles is quite striking.

What I take away from the whole thing is the rising power of the Asian-American vote.  Asian-Americans are being subjected to discrimination in higher education because they are over-achievers.  Progressives, backers of so-called "diversity" are trying to limit the number of Asian-Americans who are admitted to elite colleges and universities, and Asian-Americans are getting pretty upset about it.  There was an unusually large number of Chinese language ballots issued for this recall.

Whenever you read an article like that in a publication like that, you should use Google or something like it to find out the actual facts.

What that article leaves out is that Gov Youngkin's executive order conflicts with state law in Virginia that says school boards must follow CDC guidelines to the maximum extent possible.  The CDC currently calls for mask wearing in schools, so it is not at all clear that that local school board is breaking any law by defying Gov. Youngkin's executive order.

Recalled San Francisco School Board President Blames 'White Supremacists'

The San Francisco school board president recalled earlier this week insinuated that "white supremacists" were "aligned" with her ouster.

Sounds like the renaming thing was a minor issue compared to reopening the schools and maintaining the merit-based admissions to high schools. Either way, good for SF. (For once)
