Report: Former Texans GM Rick Smith ‘On the Jaguars’ Radar’ John Shipley - 1h ago

#21

This board is such a cesspool. I have been coming less and less. Almost every thread has to be derailed by some idiot troll.

Talking football seems like a futile fight. Where are the mods to take out the trash? Oh yea, some of the mods are trolls too.

Been throwing Rick Smith's name out there for months now. Surprised this didn't come up any sooner. He would be an EXCELLENT addition to this team.

Made the argument that he was the key to keeping it altogether in Houston, and not even barely a year after he had to step away and step down to take care of his dying wife, O'Brien took full control of the roster and the team completely imploded from there. Much like Rick Spielman, he's showcased over the years that he's capable of finding quality players in rounds where it's rare to find said quality.

Not only does he find quality players but he also has a knack for finding a healthy balance of players on offense and defense. I really don't think this team could go wrong either way at this point. Rick Smith should have been interviewed months ago though for the position. I would have interviewed him to take over Baalke regardless with the intent of expanding his role even further at an executive level.

Less and less should become never! You’re almost there.

Thanks for contributing to the thread.

As for the topic at hand, Rick Smith would rock. Saw someone mention Spielman as EVP and Rick Smith as assistant GM.

Basically sandwiching Baalke in the middle.

For me, it's about character. Slick Rick Spielman is one of those [BLEEP] kissers who's top motive is covering his own [BLEEP] when things go awry. Rick Smith, on the other hand, buit a powerhouse in the AFC South. He left on his own accord to take care of his wife. It would be wise for the Jags to snap him up.

So, just to clarify, we shouldn't hold Baalke's terrible track record against him because he wasn't with the Jags, but we SHOULD hold Spielman's (hypothetical) bad history against him?

To say nothing of the fact that I've seen FAR more ire for Baalke than Spielman from sources outside the Jags.

So Spielman has just been severed from the Vikings and Baalke has been away from the Niners six years and you're calling that a fair comparrison?

Wait. Are you describing Spielman or Baalke?

Weird that you would attribute those characteristics to Spielman and dislike him and yet deify Baalke when anyone that has worked with him has said the same thing.

As trolls completely derail another thread, and Mods stand by doing nothing other than giving warnings for self-censoring four letter words, in the words of Bob Slydell in Office Space: What would you say ya do here?

Because people who make those hiring decisions have a hell of a lot more intel than armchair GMs like yourself.

Khan has zero intel. The only person hiring Baalke at this point is him.

When everyone else is telling him that Baalke isn't worth hiring, maybe Khan should listen.

Ok. From my arm chair, I guess I cant judge when I see a coach contribute majorly to a horrible losing season. Sure

lol what....

The mods shouldn't have to do anything, this is an online forum where we can talk about whatever we want. Here's a thought, maybe if people think someone is a troll, do not respond to said troll (or just block them). If no one responded to the people who are simply looking to argue, then the threads would never be derailed. Problem is people like the trolls, they like to argue with them. They think they will change their opinion, or they think that the troll cares about their opinion.

Stop talking to the trolls and move on. That is how you keep the thread on point, not mods. I am surprised people want the mods to have that kind of power...especially with people complaining about mods abusing their power (I have yet to see them abuse it btw).

Spielman's far worse. So not weird.

The problem originates with the definition of trolling. Too many on here want to make that a convenient way of censorship when someone has an opinion that grades against their self-entitled viewpoints. It's a cop out.

I think it actually originates with a guy that joins the board during the hiring process for HC, then shoves Bevell down our throats. Bevell is the ONE and ONLY savior of this franchise. Any other move is a mistake. Then we find out you were on the Seahawks board doing the same thing. Bevell is gone and you’ve found how much fun it was to create friction going 180 degrees from what the fan base is wanting, you decided to up the ante with your pro Baalke crap.

Back to Talking about the Ricks. Yes, please. I’d take either one.

You should write fiction since you certainly know how to make things up.
I'd vote Smith, hard pass on Spielman.

I agree.

What we need in an EVP is an experienced NFL person who can give some guidance to Shad Khan and override Trent Baalke if the need arises.  Both Ricks would probably be able to do that.

They did talk about hiring two positions. One being EVP and another below or same level as Baalke.  I don’t remember, I think it was below.  But wouldn’t it be nice to snag both of them!  Although, at that point, would there be too many cooks in the kitchen?
