Personally, I think he's buying time for Baalke. He doesn't want to have to handcuff Baalke for some insane reason, so he's gonna drag this process out in order to give Baalke one year to have total control. I believe Khan will either hire an EVP after the draft and much of free agency or he will do it so close to the draft that the new EVP will have no time to prepare, so this will be a Baalke controlled draft. I bet this is some "backdoor deal" he made with Baalke. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Some people, regardless of how we interpret their personality, seem to get along with certain people. Khan and Baalke seem to have that. It's strange. It sucks.. it makes you question a lot... but it's the reality. (02-24-2022, 11:00 AM)TrivialPursuit Wrote:(02-24-2022, 10:50 AM)TheO-LineMatters Wrote: Agreed. Rick Smith was fairly well liked on the Texans team, however his reputation is that he's great with the 1st rounder but struggled to find meaningful talent from the 2nd round and beyond. The only exception was when Gray Kubiak was first hired, but the truth is that the draft was almost solely run by Kubiak himself, and it was pretty by far the best draft the Texans have had:
1 Mario Williams 1 2 DeMeco Ryans 33 3 Charles Spencer 65 3 Eric Winston 66 4 Owen Daniels 98 6 Wali Lundy 170 7 David Anderson 251 Ballsy to take Mario at #1 over Vince Young and Reggie Williams, but turned out to be the best pick. DeMeco was a probowler. Picked up both tackles in the top of the third...Charles Spencer looked like a first rounder until Ron Dayne destroyed his knee and Winston was a long term RT. Owen Daniels was a fantastic find in the 4th. Wali Lundy never did anything, but even David Anderson contributed. However if you look at his other drafts you won't see many meaningful players from the 2nd round and later. I think the best thing for the Jags is that Rick is perfectly comfortable fitting into his role as a GM, doesn't seem to have that power-hungry, step-on-those-around-you to protect your [BLEEP] vibe.

While this is not the preferred situation, I can't see our HC coming here if Baalke has total control over the roster.

What do expect Peterson to say? Of course he’s going to say he looks forward to working with Baalke. I’m not going to get my hopes up for a “collaboration”

The tag deadline is less than two weeks. Free agency starts in less than a month. And the most hated man in football is still firmly entranched at the top of the pyramid. But you know, just the #1 overall pick and loads of cap space on the line. No rush. (02-24-2022, 03:48 PM)Jag702 Wrote: What do expect Peterson to say? Of course he’s going to say he looks forward to working with Baalke. I’m not going to get my hopes up for a “collaboration” I think the puzzle pieces have been put in place. Pederson didn't impress the Jags in his first interview (commonly reported) and Pederson didn't want to work with Baalke so they were fine moving on from each other. Then Pederson severely underestimated how much other HC interest he would have league wide, and Shad severely underestimated just how much Baalke was going to make the Jags opening toxic. After every other candidate who had options, Hackett/Eberflus taking other jobs and Byron/Moore/Quinn staying in their cushy coordinator jobs, the Jags and Pederson crawled back to each other. Now they're trying to save face and pretend to be all kumbaya with each other, and I am not buying it.

Or, upon further review and actually getting to know him, Pederson realizes that Baalke is a genuine talent and vital cog in the Jags' player personnel camp and forges a productive working arrangement.
Fans have a right to sensationalize about what they think is undeniable truth, but in most instances like this it doesn't amount to a hill of beans.
Pederson probably wanted to work with Lawrence. Fixing him and this disaster of a franchise would give him a nice bullet point on his resume. He did it in Philadelphia. Can he do it in Jacksonville? We'll see. Doing it in spite of Baalke would just make it that much sweeter.
He was also used to working with a bunch of [BLEEP] by all accounts when he was with the Eagles. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? Now I stated earlier that I think the Jags would be well served to hire Smith as a franchise overseer. But from a talent evaluation standpoint, Pederson and Baalke can be a successful tandem. “From 2012 to 2018 only 8 out 52 draft picks signed a second contract.” Is it because he drafts poorly or not willing to resign players? Or both? “Khan wants more football knowledge in the building to beef up personnel decisions.” If Baalke was doing enough, would we need an EVP and AGM? He’s the current GM could that explain why the team is ranked last in this power ranking. Past hx + current hx = last place….I hang my hopes on a successful season on Pederson/Lawrence and that they can be the next Stafford/McVay pairing
